Here we go, the old 'Is Bony's ruining PP?' debate:rolleyes:. I, and my kids, love the place. Its a bit of a laugh and the kids love him. he made us extremely welcome when we we there last year. Ok, so it costs a little bit more than other places, i think its worth every cent. And you know what they say- 'if you down like it, dont go!' easy!! But dont knock the man cos he's trying to make a living. As Debz said, he is a very canny business man:cool:

All well and good joggy but surely the same must apply to the various tex-mexes, chinese restaurants etc. that the laptop loyal on here are fond of bringing down at the first oppurchancity. Debz is right, he is a very canny businessman but so is yer man in the Dakota TexMex. One is treated like the devil incarnate whilst the other is treated like some sort of simple old uncle. There is no stench like the stench of hypocrisy!

Bony's

My daughter is going to be absolutely gutted that the sweet throwing by Jose is being stopped. We have booked for next year with some friends and there little girl. My daughter has told her friend all about Jose and his sweet throwing and they are, sorry were, both really looking forward to it, it's all they can talk about and we don't go until June 09. This will break their little hearts. My daughter never ate the sweets she just loves the thrill of the chase and being able to count them all out to prove how many she could get!!
:(

Rab, I for one, have never been hypocrital about it at all! I cant see the prob in the chinese/indian restaurants, and we ate at the Tex Mex last year!
I really cant see what all the fuss is about Bony's. As i said in my previous post, if you dont like them, then just dont go. But wouldnt it be really boring if we all enjoyed the same places?
And as for calling him 'simple!' he'll love you for that!
Joggy;)

Well I have been totally shot down on the tapas bar as I am the only one in the world who is anti Bonys antics! I give up - and will walk on the other side of the square, as long as you still all wave to me Ill be ok!!

Ok bella we will, but you be careful of all the tables in you way walking around the square:)

Bella, i am sorry i have been a bit busy and not posted on this topic. I agree with you totally, although i think Jose is a nice guy i don't get the attraction with Bony's, there is only outside seating and yes the measures may be large but i can get equal measures in a lot of other bars for sometimes half the price that he is charging. Now when i am holiday i dont count the pennies but paying twice as much is over the top. As others have said we all choose the places we spend our money in and thank god we are all different. Each to their own and live and let live is what i say.:)

Rib, i dont think you can compare jose with mr dakota. whilst i think its outrageous what jose charges for drinks, i think its quite a different scenario when you have 3 themed tex mex's within a six hundred yard radius, totally unneccessary and spoils what is most attractive about pp, ie, its original charms and authentic cuisine. yes, i know we have to cater for all tastes, but would it not be more desirable for mr dakota to open different styles of restaurants ie a tapas bar or something different and try and retain some type of authenticity in pp otherwise it will end up going down the same route of the plastic themed resorts!

ps i have eaten in tex mex with my kids and they thorougly enjoyed it and also spent a couple of evenings outside bony's spending a fortune and enjoyed it also, not so much the spending of the fortune mind you, but having an irish thirst, a fortune would have been spent no matter where i had a drink ;)

Don't worry Bella you're not on your own - I don't care much for Bonys at all either & fail to see the attraction, but each to his own ::shrug::

Gary, of course they are comparable. They are two of the sharpest businessmen in the port. I dont have any qualms about his prices, nobody twists my arm to drink anywhere.

My beef is with the type of establishment that is Bonys which I think wouldnt be out of place in Santa Ponsa or Magaluf and (personal abusive comment removed). Places with flouresent signs plastered about with tacky pharses like "Tuesday closed, boys legover" are not trying to retain the "original charm" of PP. Plasma TV's showing Eastenders is the type of thing found in the south of the island and if that what you want then fine but it does not lend itself to trying to retain any original charm. In my poinion if Jose could open more "Bonys" around the port in the same way as Mr TexMex has I think he would.

Jose is as culpable as Mr TexMex in diluting the original charm of PP and (abusive comment removed)
