Interesting comment in today's press.

Apparently the Japanese disaster is now seriously impacting not only the supply of cars to Europe but also the parts used by European manufacturers and that most new car supply is being diverted to permanent owners and not car rental companies. Spain's car rental market is said to be particularly hard hit in the month's to come.

Advice is to book now to avoid disappointment apparently so take heed guys !!!

BonysLad :(:(

Snowy,

Think you will be OK as your van is totally Moldavian sourced !!!;)

The news item Bonyslad refers to says Peugeot Citroen have closed their Slovakian plant due to shortage of Japanese made components. Is that near Moldavia??
Hopefully there will be no Japanese bits to go wrong on my Record Smart Car next Monday!:)
Carrentals.co.uk are quoted saying that a weeks economy rental has risen 90% in the last 3 weeks at Faro airport. Gulp!

I can't belive it but just checked the site we have hired our car from & it has gone up £485. Good job I paid them in December.

I'm sure rental companies must be placing these items in the Spanish press, to try and justify unreasonable rental rates;looking at Palma Airport(never mind the off site locations)there are thousands and thousands of cars in the rental sites, some looking as if they have never even been used once

Booked our hire car for this July (2 weeks) back in October/November and paid £360 for a VW Golf Automatic.

Same car, if booking today, would cost over £600!!

Good job we booked when we did.
