Don't thing things are quite so cut & dried Sparky, according to my "chinese whispers".

Heard today that frontline restaurants are now being asked to buy their own sand , after already paying what tax they do to the beach co !!!!

Are you suggesting that the beach at PP will change like some other places in Europe where in that areas in front of the bars are rented from the council, acting like an extension of their footprint, and the bars supply their loungers and brollies?. This has some plus points and some negatives.

If you want to spend all day on the beach, bringing your own food and drink you will not like it as you will have to buy food and drink from the bar. If you only spend a couple of hours on the beach nursing a couple of cold ones, you will like this as your lounger and umbrella is effectively free.

The Council are not daft. This is a hassle free option to raise cash. All responsibility for loungers, brollies, cleaning etc goes to the bars. The Council get their money guaranteed, whatever the weather and numbers of tourists. The bars carry all the risk.

Is there not some law in spain that says all beaches must be accessible to the public thereby outlawing the type of practice you see in italy where the beach operators fence of their areas and you effectively pay as you enter

....yes I always wonder if they will be out in time for my visit in May and they always have up to now!! Seems ludicrous that a beach resort has no sunbeds etc out early enough for visitors/locals especially with the lovely spells of good weather recently.....well it won't bother me too much as our apartment provides wonderful chairs/beds for the beach ........but it is a bit sad looking without them!!

Cor!! That's some amount of sand Bar Tamarrels are going to have to buy (about 1 mile of beach). Seriously, there used to be a law in Spain that all beaches are public beaches, i take it this still stands.

Yeah you're right in that there is no change to become private beaches. All I heard was that front line restaurants are being asked to contribute to the cost of the sand and they ain't happy.

Be 10 Euros a pint now, Smiddy, at the Tamarells !!!

Well we're not alone,someone said to OH yesterday that Alcudia don't have beds and brollies yet either and the same row was reported in the paper at one of the beaches near Cala Rajada.

Any update on when the sunbeds and shades are going to be back on the beaches?

Last year I was in P.P. last week in May. They were still putting out the Hamacas and Parasols especially towards the north (Base) end of the resort. It was nearly the 1st June before they were all in position. Still three weeks to go!

Oh... and regarding any Hamacas blown/washed out to sea by storms - they can always be scooped up by the Fire Fighting Sea Plane!!!!!

Have been trying to find out from various local friends who might know but it seems that maybe no solution has yet been reached,although it should have been discussed by council at the end of April.

At last an agreement has been reached, it was reported in the local paper today that the council are going to pay €1900 per day for 20 days to the old license holders to keep the beach clean and supply beds and brollies. After the 20 days are up a new company will take over the contract. Watch this space, i will let you know when i see any beds or brollies

They were meant to start putting out the beds and shades today but the heavy rain has delayed them...

There is a row of brollie posts up in front of Tamarells. Being done by the guy from The Eu Moll Vecinos who usually run the show.

The posts are up,some beds are out and some have the brollies on top. The tractor is working like a trojan this afternoon. Good News for the holidaymakers and hopefully the port as well.
