I've just been reading the posts about The Square - we don't tend to go there but for a different reason. My husband finds it far too hot and uncomfortable - we prefer to be on the seafront where there is (usually) a bit of a breeze. However even eating/drinking on the seafront wasn't without it's downside this year (July) - buskers. The same two or three people playing the same three or four tunes (badly). Whichever restaurant or bar we went to they always turned up sometimes at more than one place. When you've heard the same tune every day for two weeks you really don't feel like dropping a few coins in the hat which was passed round. I don't remember them being around in previous years and I have to say that they spoilt my enjoyment of several meals and quiet drinks.

Quite agree. Usually I would feel uncomfortable not putting money in but I think I could whistle they're repetoire even now. Local jigaloes, who I noticed had a girlfriend in toe who pocketed their little earner in her handbag and they could then be seen on an evening spending most of it in Chivas, oh to be a young entrepeneur!

They made an appearance I think for our last week and we didn't contribute....
We loved the sand art though, is that still going strong?

Yes sand art still going strong, great to see, aren't some people so talented.

Not only did they play the same tunes (if thats what you call it) but they had the same clothes every time, not only that but the guy with the dog got real rude when we didn't put money in his hat. i get fed up with this at home and don't want it on holiday. Sand art fab at least this shows some skill.

I'm told that the buskers are Bulgarian.
I was told this by the sand artists who are Rumanian.

Thanks for the tip. I will take my mouth organ and my wife will play the spoons. As for buskers passing the hat around (Lady Pollensa) do what I do, pocket the money and run!

Seriousely though, recent comments suggest some growing problems in PP. We visited Mulligans one night last year (don't really know why). There was definetely a hostile atmosphere, plenty of noise etc. and a few drunks, not in evidence in previous years. We go over in September and I hope things will be quieter.

How annoying.

I have just got back from a short citybreak to Rome... my first visit.

It was a big disappointment and nowhere near what I had expected and was tempered only by the fact that I knew that I would be returning to PP in a few weeks!

Amongst the things that spoiled the ambiance were the Eastern European buskers and beggars who were to be found at every turn. The same buskers would roam around the narrow lanes playing (and singing) the same four or five songs every lunch time and evening.

What got me through the sheer tedium was the thought that this didn't happen in PP (Thank God).... little did I know.

Let’s hope it’s not a sign of things to come.

We were subjected to three busking "groups"(?)
The one with the dog (which looked very bored), no smiles, the accordian and castanets (intimidating)
The one with the sharp light speed violin playing and equally sharp "winkle picker" shoes"
The one with white hat, guitar and no talent.
I'm a great supporter of live music, two of these were not worth supporting.
We've only been going to PP for 5 Yrs, hope these guys don't get a residency.

just returned from a great 3 weeks in pp,but have to agree about the buskers,soooooooooo boring, same old tunes over and over.
however 2 nights before we returned home, 2 guys turn up outside bonys bar in the square, both just playing acoustic guitars and start singing a beatles medlay, along with some other old tunes, within minutes they had most of the bar singing along,got to say they had real talent, what a lovely change from the violin and accordian.never saw them before that or after!

Hmmmmmm the eastern Europeans are taking over, we go on island holidays now as we were burgled on the Costa Brava on our second day and were well and truly cleaned out, quite an experience... (we were asleep in the apartment at the time). police were great but they knew it was a gang of Roumanians operating in the area... bit worrying if they are on the islands as well.

Hi Penny, our friends have just returned from Mijjas (not sure of the spelling) and they were burgled, they were staying in a relations villa and the guy who was suspect was a Romanian gypsy travelling with the local fair,can't be too careful!!
