Josep is going to struggle trying to sell a MDD for 14.95 in the winter when people can go along to (for example) Mestralia just 5 minutes down the road where the and nice guyMDD is 8.5 and as well as a bottle of La mancha wine, water and gaseos you can have from 3 to 33 courses (or how many you want) of very good quality food and friendly service. The place is chokka whatever the day with locals and not so locals. but good luck to Josep anyway, hes a good worker

Yes but if you want to eat in the evening then Menestralia is not an option except on Friday and Saturday when it is slightly more expensive, plus you need to have a car to get to it. We had a lovely meal at Ca'n Josep last Friday evening and it did include wine in the price of 14.95.

Didn't think driving was a problem for most people, and I was referring to the day time menus.personally, I hope josep stays open

I guess for those of us living here its not although I know a few who do not drive but I was thinking of those who are now opting out of carhire for next year. Guess we all want him to succeed he is such a nice guy.

Menestralia ..... now if I have this right this is the Glass Blowing place on the old road from Inca to Pollensa

I have visited this place numerous times.......... I remember the glass blowers, the factory shop and I remember the leather place the other side of the car park ......... I even seem to remember sitting outside and having a coffee and there being some animals in cages ( or was it birds ? ) but at no time do I remember a restaurant

Wow ......... I love that despite having been to Majorca at least 50 times in my life I still keep finding new things

So where is the restaurant and what is it like ........ also if it is that far out how come workmen go for their MDD .... where do they come from ? or have I got the wrong end of the stick

For most visitors Menestralia would hardly be "5 minutes down the road"..it is certainly not in PP itself and therefore within walking distance..which is what most of us do....walk....not everyone has a car at their disposal and therefore taxi costs would wipe out any savings made

Yes pollensa thats it! Menestralia is on the old road between Palma and PP, and before the motorway opened you used to drive right by it. Now you can just about see it from the motorway and we have often wondered whether business has been affected by the new road. From what Ray says though probably not as it's obviously very popular with the locals.

I did think it strange to compare C'an Josep in PP to this restaurant which must be at least 10 miles away!!!

Menestralia is at the glass blowing factory and is now a buffet style restaurant, usually quite busy with a mix of people all arriving by car or coach especially at weekends. I personally prefer the noise and bustle of Ses Torresand the larger selection it offers. Downside is the distance but good if you want a day out.

Wasn't meant as a direct comparison, just an example and of course its not 10miles away:)

What was it if not a direct comparison then ? When I said 10 miles away it was a conservative guess! How far away would you say it is? It's certainly not 5 minutes down the road.

Is it possible that we are talking about two entirely different places here with very similar names - Ray, are you talking about the glass blowing factory restaurant?

Yes, but i think we should move on. can Moreno MDD Pollenca(1 euro 10 each way on the bus) 7 euos 50. Anyway, the good thing is that so many different bars and restaurants in the area are staying open. The new St malo Restaurant is superb and does a MDD for about 12 I think:)

I have eaten this week at both Menestralia and Ca'n Josep and Joseph gets my vote every time. We had MDD at 14.95 incl IVA. Superb Chicken rissotto to start, followed by Roast lamb and a lovely fruit sponge (can't begin to write what he called it but was delicious.) all washed down with wine of our choice and water. Keep up the good work Jo. Did pay extra for Bread, ali oli and olives but only 1€ per head.

Great, hope he keeps going. You didn't say what you had at Mestralia, but I presume it was about half the price of CJs

Its hard to believe anyone can make a living selling a 3 course MDD for 8 eur inc wine and water.

Adios

Dave

Menestralia is €9 for meal including wine water and gaseosa, other cold drinks and beer on tap.The food that day was a choice from soup, salads, pork chops in creamy sauce, chicken drumsticks, fish in tomato, paella, mallorquin bread soup, meatballs, squid or similar(looked very rubbery), veg.lasagne, pork escalopes with a variety of desserts. I hasten to add that I did not try it all!!! There was nothing special on offer but a substantial meal could be had. I have been before and will go again but not my favourite place.

I suppose its all about what youre after that particular day. Not always do you want to sit in a nice restaurant for the evening especially if you have kids with you. Sometimes you just want to feed yourselves and the kids and a cheap, wholesome MDD hits the mark. Certainly the buffet in El Corte Ingles does what it says on the tin.
