If you book your car rental and pay in full in the UK in advance i.e. via brokers such as Holiday Autos using Amex (some amex cards offer as part of if the benefits CDW etc.) and think your good to go except for paying for the tank of fuel, 2nd driver etc on arrival and dont need any more insurance then think again .
The rental companies for example Record Go say if you wish to pay for the fuel etc on Amex then you have to take their insurance! presumably the merchant charges are so high this another of their ways of making a bob or two .
Other rental companies are not accepting Amex full stop.
