Have mentioned this elsewhere, on my statement I have found some charges for £1.50, I think that was when we used other banks. We usually used the Telebanco machines (blue signs) and there has been no charge for those.
Presumably it works similarly to our Link scheme where you are not charged if you use banks but are charged if you use a machine say in a shop.

Did your own bank charge you at all for the transaction?
I have also enjoyed reading all your reviews on restaurants
we will be trying some new ones along with all our old favourites when we finally arrive in PP next Sat. (been looking forward to this holiday so much it seems to have taken forever)8)

Hi,
Be very wary of just using cash machines as a source of your cash on holiday. We have just got back and my husband decided against taking travellers cheques, preferring to leave the money in his account and draw cash when needed. He has worked out that he has paid nearly £20 in charges because their seems to be a minimum £1.50 charge per transaction and then a percentage increase depending on the amount you withdraw. I don't think that it really matters where you draw the money, it depends on your own banks charges so you would be best to check with them before you go. He is with the nat west. I took some Euros and then mainly travellers cheques which I got at the co-op and they were all commission free. I changed them at either the Eolo or the estate agents opposite who are both commission free. How smug am I??

The best bank/building society to be with for withdrawing cash abroad is Nationwide as they do not charge you to take out money. We have an account with them that we use specifically for holidays.

We're with Halifax and we weren't charged when we used Telebanco.

We're with Nationwide and on checking our statements back home - found we got some very reasonable (if variable) rates when using the hole in the wall. Had to go to Bon Dia and shuffle money on the internet banking because I was charged as Visa transactions on my Debit card whereas there was no charge when we used our ordinary cash cards. Good excuse to go to Bon Dia though - Jay loved their spicy chicken wings & they made up some brilliant baguettes and sarnies for us for days out.

Do not use credit cards! Very expensive way to buy cash, use your debit card only.
