Classic Car Rally

Last year they drove through Pollenca and on to Formentor for Lunch. They then did a speed trial on the road back down ending at the roundabout close to the football club. If you get to the end of the bypass you can see them all as they come into the checkpoint and out again assuming they follow the same route.

Having just looked at the routes they will not be doing the speed trial as mentioned above. I think the best place to see them would be from the layby near Vicens the furniture shop on the roundabout on the Pollensa -Soller road.

Hi, i have moved this part of Ram's post from the "General Feedback" section as i think it's more relevant here. I hope Ram understands why.:)

I am also issuing a pic of intended road closures for the Annual Mallorca Classic Rally 10 to 12 th March held in 8 days time, ( which I am unable to attend due to the cost ) and hope that this does not get lost in a long thread, but is included here as well. I was along some of these roads this year, and hope it wil be of interest to people arriving or departing, so as not to make them late for anything.

Well we were really looking forward to seeing all the old cars.... for some strange reason I had got the idea that they woudl all be lined up in Pollensa for us to go and have a look at ( I think it was because there was a stage from Campanet to Pollensa and another from Pollensa To Lluc )

The website timings were confusing ( but straightforward once I eventually found out how it works ..... essentially they just drove from campanet to Pollensa to Lluc to Campanet to Pollensa to Lluc .... taking from about 8am to 2pm in total )

So the day was grey and wet..... Not a good start

We drove to Pollensa; we saw the sign saying the Lluc road was closed.... so we drove up it just to the point where it was actually closed (which is another story due to the proximity of Alvo's villa ..... I know I am just a touch obsessed ) and looked around for all the cars ( remember I thought they could all be there waiting to start off ) ......... we parked the car and went for a walk so that I could ask the policeman where the cars were parked ..... Well what with my pathetic Spanish and his tiny English we managed to establish that he thought I was a crackpot and NO the cars won’t all be parked up.... they will just drive past this spot about 1 every 10 mins for some time.... then there will be a gap and then some more will come. Well it was pouring down, there was no shelter, and we didn’t bring an umbrella.... so we drove back into Pollensa..... and wow on the way back we suddenly spotted a porch complete with crash helmet wearing drivers and rally numbers driving towards us.... and then later an old beetle ...... the race was on

So we parked at the roundabout by the furniture shops and stood and watched........... Luckily the rain had died down and the cars came passed at regular enough intervals to keep the attention........ about 30 odd, mainly porches but also an old Anglia; escorts; a ford mustang; Lotus Cortina; old mercs; beetles; a couple of Etype Jags; a lotus and some old Fiats ….. all waving to “the crowd” as they went past and some treating us to a double go around the roundabout …. and one crew who decided to go round 5 times …. what for I don’t know but it was fun.

BUT …… there were only about 8 of us watching …… there was NOTHING posted anywhere in the port or in Pollensa to give anyone a clue it was taking place ……. What a shame

Fantastic that you had such a good view though. Cant believe its not advertised more locally, but it seems to follow a theme - look at the Wine Festival! Son is now determined that he wants to see it next year - think we said that last year too though! Hope to see some great photos.

It's a shame that it is not advertised better especially for enthusiasts. Was there a stage to Formentor too? Because I was sitting on my terrace and quite a few MG's went past or was this something completely different.

I saw the rally at the Campanet end of the Campanet to Pollenca stage a few years ago. I had to go to a villa along the road. The police didn't want me to go through so I said it was important. Any way they let me go through and told me to drive fast as the stage was due to start in a few minutes. So I did.:) That old Campanet road is fantastic especially when you know that there won't be any cars coming the opposite direction there's even a jump you can get all four wheels off the ground.
Not bad for a rental car.

Classic Car rally 2012

Dates have been released as 15th,16th and 17th March but route has not been established yet. Drivers staying at hotel in Portals, lucky things, and Formantor is of course included in the route!

:)It's my ambition to one day be out in PP for this rally.........never really off at this time of the year.

It was featured on "Top Gear" some time ago and looks great.:)

Seem to find ourselves saying this every year nick. I keep in touch with the organisers and find out all the details etc. then find out we cant go as it doesnt fit in with other things! End up posting for everyone else and then just look at the photos! This year, they even sent us a form to fill in to put our own car in for the event!! LOL! Getting closer to going I suppose - maybe next year .....;)

Blimey, I wouldn't have thought 10 year old Ford Fiesta's would fit the criteria !!!

;)

 Gasp! Cheeky yet again! LOL! All depends whats under the bonnet I suppose! ;) As Im pretty good at map reading, I suppose I could be the side kick rather than the driver though. Allows more time to look out of the window!

The Pollensa/Formentor leg is tomorrow afternoon at 4pm i think (timings were not very clear on the website ) i hope to get some pics ;).

Think there is a Pollensa Lluc run tomorrow too. As you say, all a little confusing on the site and times relate to road closure times as well as expected race times. Shame we cant fit a webcam to one of the cars!

According to their website tomorrows leg is Formentor to Pollensa, they run up to the Hotel for lunch then start after lunch. The Formentor road will be closed from 15.15hrs - 18.00hrs. They finish this stage at the roundabout by the military base then there is another leg "J" from Pollensa to Lluc where they finish and off to dinner somewhere.
