I am sure that the Gommar residents association who have both English and mallorquin in their membership and on their committee have raised this with the Port representative on the council. Unfortunately she does not have her own budget and we are really reliant on the main Pollenca council. But Good Luck anyway.

wish you well with this, albeit as just a summer visitor

unfortunately we have the same problem at home - beach & footpaths regularly soiled, despite appropriate by-laws being in place

comes down to uncivilised owners, wherever you live

Unfortunately that is true, but if people try something, no matter how small, it willl show that many consider it unacceptable and hopefully something - anything - will be put into practice to help aleviate the problem. It will of course all come down to money and where the council consider it best spent. So the more aggrevation they get the more likely they are to deal with it.

Well sorry guys as I'm just getting nowhere with this. When I was out a couple of weeks ago the problem was still there (if anything worse than the summer) - I didn't go as far as Hola its GL suggested (photos) as quite frankly one bit of dog dirt looks a bit like the next! By hand I delivered copies of my earlier email to the tourist office (it was open), the Council office in Pollensa and to another couple of 'important' contacts and too date I have not had one reply > very frustrating. I'm round and about in 4 weeks time (Easter) and I will try again.

On a more positive note I saw a family out with their dog on Monday and yes it soiled. Mum gave the daughter a bag and it was all picked up. Perhaps she could teach others.

Not a solution to the problem, but this may solve a different issue; If everyone who steps on the mess were to turn up at the "T" "M" and do exactly what is "stated", perhaps the offensive sign may be removed quicker than expected!:D

Gary ;)

This is an excellent start. Well done Sun!!

A suggestion:

How about whoever is in PP at the mo gathering some photo evidence, +time and place etc. Maybe uploading them to a common site ?flickr?

I am not suggesting anyone puts themselves at risk by photographing owners, but maybe a tongue in cheek guided tour around the port with supporting photos of Dog Mess etc.

Someone could then organise the sending to those in power, Tourist Info, Local council, Daily Bulletin, TOTN. etc

It would certainly make a good story and possibly embarrass people to mend their ways.

something for the BAFTAs?

Yes BUT we don't want to put people off visiting PP.

SP only just read your post. Well done on you efforts. I suppose the attitude is just different to ours.

The PSOE lady (who is at all the freebie council events) is the link councillor for the port, her name is Francisca something or other. The mayor is Joan Cerda. The coucil have a website (all in Catalan of course) but if you contact them in English there are plenty of people working for the council who speak English and will get the message. Also I think the Miquel sun properties is Miquel Cifre who runs sealand villas(amongst many other things)speaks excellent English and I think still is the preseident of the PP residents association
