Closing down.

I agree with you Sparky - we have known many of the staff for over 20 years and some are good friends. we do worry for the future but lets hope some of our favourites survive. as soon as governments allow and airlines start flying we will be out to support local business - and to see our apartment again!
 
To those of you that know my sense of humour, I blame my late wife. Since she died she seems to be taking PP with her.:eek:

On a serious note (Yes I do have them)
Running a restaurant on social distancing and making money is virtualy impossible.In the vast majority of cases the owner would be paying out of his own pocket to keep it going.

When places like Can Cuarassa go, you know you have serious problems.
 
I hope that the local owners etc. can be resilient. We always try to support the smaller local independent operations. Most are family owned and operated, employing local staff. Not so concerned about the larger multi site operations, other than their staff. These operations have often outbid the smaller ones in the past over property rents etc.
I believe that it is the smaller independents that give the port its' character and make it attractive. The quirkiness they offer means that each visit presents a different experience, as opposed to much of a muchness of many others. We have too much of that in our towns and high streets here. Example, the large pub chains, fast food outlets etc.

Just want to get on a flight as soon as possible to support as many of these great people and assets to PP (and Spain) as soon as I can :)

Ikebana have just announced that they will not open this year :(.

Dear friends, after trying everything possible and impossible to return to the activity, the sad situation created by COVID19, has forced us to decide closing down for good.
We have not been able to gather the necessary resources to be able to work calmly until this situation passes. Without planes, hotels, tourists, it is impossible to reach a point of stability to settle all financial commitments.
We think it has been very worthwhile to feed people, to create good memories in their minds, to have met so many wonderful people who have supported our dream.
We keep your infinite affection, and the definitive proof that when things are done with passion and love, the seeds of hard work grow and nurture each other's affection.
Thank you very much to all of you for having walked through our door, for having got a chance to us and for participating in our little project and dream.
You will be always in our hearts. See you soon somewhere else.
Ikebana will always be deeply in our memory and hearts and we wish the place many successes for the future.

Dearest customer,
We are very sad to inform you that we are not going to reopen Restaurant Can Cuarassa anymore.

I am over retirement age, and Roque (the manager) has been suffering severe knee problems lately and needless to say the COVID19 has accelerated the process of closing down.

After a hard and long deliberation, we have come to the decision of leaving it closed indefinitely and put it up for Sale.

It has not been an easy decision after nearly 24 years of devoted service to our customers and we are going to miss you very much.

We thank you all for accompanying us during this long and beautiful journey, and wish you and your families all the best.

You can find us at the Restaurant Stay in Port de Pollensa.

Ikebana is just around the corner from our apartment and is a real favourite. This is really sad. Can Cuarassa closing is sad too, but we might only go there once in a while, but Ikebana is a regular visit. Very sad :(
 
Are businesses/their employees getting any help from Government to survive ?

That's a shame as I never got around to trying it and it always looked very popular. Its in such a great spot, I'm sure someone will reopen something there in the future.

The last TA review was : Tried to have lunch here. But was sent away by rudely screaming owner - Manolo - and “go where you came from foreigner”. Outrageous. Never in 10+ years as resident been treated like this.

Which makes me wonder why it closed?

Sadly though, Francina's little boutique/gift shop, next to Tolo's, will not be re opening
