Cockroaches

Has anyone any advice for dealing with cockroaches? We have a house and of late noticed ever increasing amounts, obviously the odd one or two is not unusual (but still freaks me out!)
Is there a local company that provides a service to deal with them - the sprays from the supermarket have no effect.
Any advice would be gratefully appreciated.

I dont kow if this service is available for cockroaches, but last year when we had a problem with wasps the company the looks after our apartment got the local council to attend to them.

We get the occassional one and loads of wood lice. You can get a spray can (like a fly spray) from the local ferreteria which says it lasts for one year, and it does seem to last a very long time. Just spray it around the likely areas and then all you will find is dead cockroaches. The spray can is a lot taller than fly spray cans and it fairly easily recognisable as it advertises Uno Ano on the front - it is orange/red. There are two types, one that give a spray and another which sprays a foam. We use the spray one and one spray lasts many months, and possibly a year as advertised. Obviously it is wise to keep dry food, flour, and sugar etc in containers to discourage the roaches

Does anyone know where wood lice come from? They seem to appear from nowhere.

Sounds like ZOOM. Works well with ants. Spray all around all openings, the ants come up to the "barrier" and retreat/go elsewhere!

I don't think it is Zoom, but another name. We use Zoom as a fly spray and it is very effective. I am sure the year long stuff is called something different but can't remember what!

Thanks for all your suggestions but I was hoping to find a profesional to do the dirty work for me! So if anyone knows a company that will routinely visit your property and do what ever is required I would be most greatful.

Hi - I believe that we use a company called Collis for the fumigation of our apartment block. They treat the outside once a year. I will try to get a contact number for you.

I get my Zum and Zoom mixed up too. I think you are right it is Zum - and very effective it is too.
