Thing is Sparky, whilst I'm sure you're right and I 'interpreted' the rules the same way as you.....it isn't clear and could be construed that you have to wear a mask 'when not eating or drinking', so between courses for instance.

People saying the Balearic Government are doing this to protect people, but in my humble opinion, they are treating people like idiots. We all 'get' the need to socially distance from each other and if someone is going to break the rules, then they are going to break these rules too.

I suggest if you want to see idiots in action you look at the videos that have been posted in various newspapers of Magaluf and Playa de Palma this weekend.Drunken antics of both UK and German visitors.These idiots have put them and the people around them at risk and continue to do so and could be sat next to you on the plane home.

If Spain follows the procedure that takes place in Italy..
The following happens ...wear a mask on entry to bar/restaurant at the door is hand santitiser this must be applied ...once seated masks can be removed till you get up to leave then refitted ...should you leave your seat at any time ie toilet/fag break the mask must be worn.
The menu is likley to be laminated so that it can be wiped over , all the condiments/ bottles of oil/vinegar etc are wiped down after use with strong alcohol based sanitiser

Many cafes hand out only sugar , salt and pepper sachets on request.

Totally agree and thank you for your input Tiggy. Most of these measures have already been adopted here.

I carry my own bottle of hand sanitiser when out eating and drinking and use it frequently, most of it is just plain old common sense.

Ive seen the idiots, in Magaluf, London.....you name it! The wearing of face masks walking around Mallorca whilst social distancing, won't stop the idiots being idiots! I'm sure most sensible people carry hand sanitiser, (I do) and whilst I have no issue with face masks needing to be worn upon entering restaurants, its the walking around that I find irritating.

Anyway, not here for a debate, just making my point, that as usual, the majority have to suffer, due to the minority!

Well, I don’t know about anyone else but I’d certainly not want to be in government right now. I think all governments are doing their best to follow advice from experts (some more “expert” than others!), and then have to shoulder the full blame when things go wrong, or people don’t follow or agree with the rules.

I think the revised Spanish rules make sense, and outside of the mandatory areas for wearing masks (town centres, shops, crowded places where you can’t social distance etc) they have allowed a bit of latitude for common sense. Despite there being a small minority who have never possessed any degree of common sense, it seems to me to be the right thing to do.

I’m looking forward to coming out on Wednesday and the slight relaxation will definitely make our stay more enjoyable.

I think the Spanish, particularly in Mallorca, have done really well trying to protect their citizens and residents as far as humanly possible. As visitors, we must do absolutely everything we possibly can to respect those rules and avoid doing anything that puts the safety and health of our hosts in jeopardy.

Let’s make sure that those of us who are lucky enough to visit this year don’t screw it up for those who can’t until 2021. Be safe.

Can I ask what constitutes a mask?

In the uk people are making face coverings out of any old thing. Some have pockets for filter material but doubt you can tell if it's fitted. They get sold for £2 each and I've got a stash of them. I presume you just steam clean then after a shift.

Amazon/ Ebay sell 3 ply blue rectangular ( dentist style) masks for 20p each.

I have a box of 20 N95 standard respirators which cost £70.

I also have a Respro urban cycling mask with HEPA grade grade filters but it has free flowing exhaust flaps so I only breathe in through the filter. I guess these are a no no.

In my humble opinion and to be clear. We arrived safely on Friday (many thanks to EasyJet and rather efficient but understandable service at Palma airport) we were perplexed and frustrated about the original 'Face Mask Monday' announcement. Especially as on Sunday we enjoyed a lovely walk from the Port into Pollenca town seeing 5 cars, 3 cyclists and 2 other pedestrians during the 8km walk which in the heat would have been unbearable wearing a face mask. But on arriving in town on Market Day with the masses (both locals and tourists) really thought face masks would be sensible.
The island and Spain has endured the harshest of Lockdowns and obviously does not want to endure a similar experience. The new common sense approach should be respected and not quibbled about.

Bobley, masks with filters are not allowed. Any other face mask,homemade or otherwise is acceptable. When you are cycling you do not need to wear a mask . Masks must be carried at all times and please be aware that there are times when on the sea front and pine walk
you may not be able to keep 1.5 metre distance.

Any link to an official website that says that as there is so much confusion on-line about masks.

Most of the home made masks made from pillowcases or T-shirts are not much use at all.

Sparky, sorry but I have to correct you. The mandatory use of masks from 24th July is only coming into effect from that date in England. It is already mandatory here in Scotland at the minute both on public transport and in shops/ shopping malls.
