Currency & exchange rates

Got most of cash in Nationwide flex account for my hols, but had to pay an apartment owner a couple of thousand Euros cash on day 1 , so changed it with Travelex here for a rate of 1.23 and no further charges.

Must order online to get this rate - otherwise if you turn up at the counter you get a much poorer rate.
 
We had some euros left over from my partner's various business trips but needed a top-up to do a bit of first day shopping/dinner/etc. Got £150's worth from Sainsbury's this morning - a rate of just over 1.19. Can't remember when it was last that low.

John, I can beat that, hubby went to the local Post Office yesterday to get £15 worth of euros, just in case we needed any small change - he got a rate of 1.15 - it just bought 13€ - Where will it end.:eek:
 
Seems me & Mr WhaleyW pick the day when sterling hits its alltime low against the Euro.

Some of these forthcoming meals out are going to feel 'orribly expensive - I'm starting to understand the point of view of Americans who visit the UK!

Well things are not going too well with the exchange rate at the moment. The British economy has hit another all time low and as a result the exchange rate is falling like a stone in water, the Interbank rate is now at 1.16. This probably means that currency exchange outlets will be offering something like 1.12.:eek:
 
Spot on Whaley 1.13 in town last night I saw!! More bad news for the Spanish economy as well I see today!
 
1.15€ yesterday at a local travel agents. Better than Post office, m&s etc but still a drop compared to what we had not that long ago :(
 
Just had a look at travelex - today they're offering 1.141 compared with 1.12 at M&S (where I usually go :( )
 
Ramsdens for Gold in Newcastle had 1.14 today, always seem to have one of the best rates. Still not good hope it picks up in time for the summer
 
With the news over the weekend and the markets selling more sterling than buying, it might be an idea to get Euros now. A "so called" expert on the radio at lunchtime was talking of 1 for 1 within the forseeable future.
 
My local branch of Superdrug now randomly has a foreign exchange kiosk and seem to offer the best rates in my high street. It is run by No 1 Currency and they were offering 1.15 yesterday. I like it as it has a big board in the window with the rate unlike some who like to be rather mysterious about it.

Thomas Cook used to be quite good but they say they aren't allowed to match rates now. You have to be careful with Thomson or they will charge you a fee to "buy back" currency without asking you. Firstly who ever has any money left over and second, if we do we will spend it next time!

I like to have a bit of cash to come out with and then use the Santander ATM for free as I am a customer once I am there.
 
Never really looked at the exchange rate recently, didn't realise is was as low again.
 
Exchange Rate.

I got 1.16 in Thomson Travel Shop, Liverpool, yesterday.
 
Dropped a bit, only got 1.147 at the weekend, just checked the Visa Euro exchange rate, 1.1807 today so that's not too bad for cash withdrawals with your card :)
 
Still not much change with the visa rate, around the same as this time last year :)

Sterling to Euro

I exchanged £200 for Euro in Bankia last Monday and received €213.
 
ICE Waterloo London 200 nicker would get you 232.12 Euros this morning , even on such a relatively smallish amount it shows you how much the British are ripped off.
