Current Covid19 Situation

Very surprised you have had a visit from track and trace! Last year we had a few phone calls when we returned and expect that again when we go home. Not sure when that will be as BA cancelled our return flight in mid July and our back up Ryanair flight has been moved forward twice to a date too soon to go home. We are going to see what happens with govt announcements next week and may decide to stay until end of July. The testing is a cost but well worth it and plenty of options in the port for pre departure test. Everyone has welcomed us. The port is quiet - as well as the restaurants - no need to book anywhere! Well worth coming - we are enjoying ourselves.

I was surprised, Carol, that it was so soon after we arrived. We landed on Thursday evening and the Track and Trace visit was at 9-45 on Friday morning!

We plan to visit again in just under 3 weeks time with our sons and families. Their length of stay very much depending upon the quarantine rules. We’re hoping the Government will remove quarantine, subject to Day 2 test, for those double vaccinated, as we all are. Our worry is that the Spanish will impose restrictions on Brits entering because of our “Delta” variant. Hopefully they might still allow people with double jabs and pre-departure negative tests to enter, but I honestly wouldn’t blame them if they did.
 
EU Covid certificate (passport) - For those of you who have been vacinated here and wish to travel to other parts of Europe the covid "passport' is now easily available. There is a desk inside the entrance hall at Inca Hospital. No appointment necessary. Just take proof of ID and NIE. They look you up on their database using your NIE number and issue the certificate there and then. Its open all day Mon - Fri + Sat mornings. I understand that it is intended to make them available online but the syatem is not yet up and running.
 
Sorry guys, this just hitting the national press this evening in the UK:

PARTY'S OVER? Ibiza and Majorca holidays ALREADY at risk as Covid cases double in last 14 days.

Travel expert Paul Charles, founder of PC Agency, revealed that Covid cases on the island have doubled in recent weeks.

He wrote: "An emerging dilemma for the government - the Balearics, which join the green watchlist today, have seen their 14-day infection rate more than double in the last 10 days, to 84/100,000."

He added that while it was just one of the criteria used for determining the risk of a country, alongside genome sequencing and the variants, it could put the green destination at risk.

It comes just days after thousands of students were forced into isolation across Spain, after 850 tested positive in Majorca.

I hear Paul Charles also quoted news if any could be in next 72 hours. Hope not.

Also, media reporting Spanish Students could be transported to mainland Spain by boat tomorrow (those who are negative).

Everything crossed that all stays Green.
 
Much as I hate to be the harbinger of doom. Has anyone noticed the alarming increase in rates across the Balearics (and at least Angela Merkel can’t blame the Brits for this). The virus is still a moving target so please be aware and keep abreast of the latest developments when planning your trips.
 
Oh no! Just booked a weekend away 8-12 July with Ryanair £5 flights! Fingers crossed.
I’ve also booked three restaurants. This situation is becoming hopeless.
 
The end of year student holidays should never have been allowed. Irresponsible, inconsiderate and careless kids let loose at booze fuelled parties was always a recipe for disaster :mad:.
 
Shurely not (hic) .. I thought it was only the Brits that behaved like that !

New measures are going to be introduced for the resorts

The spokesman for the Balearic Government and Minister of Tourism, Iago Negueruela, has just announced new measures are going to be introduced for the resorts of of Playa de Palma, Llucmajor, Magalluf in Mallorca and Sant Antoni de Portmany in Ibiza to try and bring the Covid case curve down.

The first new measures state that the maximum capacity of leisure and restaurant venues will be 100 people indoors and 200 outdoors. In addition, the maximum occupancy of the tables will be six people inside and 10 outside.

The maximum closing time will be at 02:00, unless the municipal regulations establish a prior time.

Test and Trace

Been home for 6 days and just had the email from test and trace to isolate for 10 days. It ends on 22/7/21 so it must be from flight home. I don’t have the NHS app.
My day 2 test was negative and two lateral flow tests done this week as I’m front line NHS, also negative. I could have been on a packed train where everyone was positive but no one interested in that !

My flight was 13 July to Bristol

Same as Us coming home on 10th July.....it takes the results of the day 2 test to come though before they know to contact anyone. By then, you'd think it was too late.

Out of our group of five, only four were contacted, so the fifth has carried on as normal! :confused:
 
I’m told it depends on where you are sitting on the plane. They don’t contact the whole plane, only the people sitting close (a row or two I think) to the person who tests positive.

The Balearic government is taking radical action to curb the number of coronavirus cases in the islands. From this Saturday all social gatherings involving people from different households are banned after 1a.m. The measure will last for the next two weeks.

From this Thursday, restaurants will have to close by 1a.m. and restrictions introduced on seating, eight people per table (instead of 12) outside and four people (instead of six) inside. But the Balearic government has decided not to make the mask compulsory again in public areas.
