Hi

Does anyone know if the ancha restaurant next to the Romantic hotel is still there?

Thanks for the info. Looking forward to going there is June.

el ancla

See you there Rosie, good live jazz Sunday pm we love it but just a warning in case you dont.:D

Sorry to nitpick but it is La Ancla.

Just an informal warning - don´t order anything to eat which isn´t actually shown on the menu. We got stung that way last year.
Regards
Deanscroft

It is such a shame when these places do things like that. So short sighted of them.
The negative is always stronger than the positive.
This happened to us at Sinbads a couple of years ago - will not go back ever!

Sorry to nitpick but it is La Ancla.

As sparky correctly said it is El Ancla. Spanish words are either masculine ending in O and proceeded by EL, or feminine ending in A and proceeded by La. However there are exceptions to the rule just to confuse us:confused:

Another confusing one is La dentista or El dentista which takes the sex of the dentist and not the word itself!

To get back on track I've only ever stopped off at El Ancla for a coffee but am looking forward to going for the jazz lunch on a Sunday after all the good reports:)

Debz may see you there in June as well as in Tolos then xx

That will teach me to try and correct someone else's Spanish. The 'el' and the 'ancla' went against what I thought was a basic rule. I did look it up in the dictionary before posting and it is a feminine noun, but I didn't go on to read that it takes a masculine article in the singular.

I've been trying to learn Spanish for many years but, as you can see, with limited success. A little learning is a dangerous thing ...

Anyway, my only experience of EL Ancla was more than 10 years ago when I waited with my hungry wiwfe and kids for more that 1 1/2 hours for our main courses. Fortunately the entertainment at the Romantica kept us amused. The second bottle of wine helped too.

Hector, don't beat yourself up. It may well be that it is Mallorquin and not Spanish or Catalan or any of the other dialects. It is all so confusing .
