Electric shower?

Hello everyone

Like many of yours, my little apartment has an electric immersion heater to produce hot water. And as we are on the second floor (of two), the water pressure is pretty low, and sometimes not enough to generate more than a trickle from our shower. The shower itself comes from the bath taps....

I am wondering if the type of electric shower we have in the UK (e.g. Mira) would work in PP? It takes a feed directly from the cold water flow (no pressure issue) and heats it electrically within the shower unit before pumping it out through the shower head.

But I can't see this type for sale at Leroy Merlin / Plomer / Bauhaus, so I wonder if this idea is a non-starter? The other option might be to install a water pump somewhere....

Suggestions very welcome, as always, especially if you have already solved this problem for yourself.

As I understand it, electric showers with a direct feed from the cold water supply depend solely on the water pressure inside the pipe. It is irrelevant Wether the shower electrical output is 7.5kw or 10kw. ( Some people confuse the electrical output with the water pressure). Therefore, I would recommend you fit a pump to the supply, especially as you say you are in the second floor.

Please be aware that although Mira are an excellent make, finding replacement shower heads and pipe fittings is difficult, as Mira have their own special pipe threads on the fittings. I would imagine replacement parts would be especially difficult to find in Spain.
 
You must consider if your electric supply can cope with an instant shower, Your standing charge is based on the size of the ICP? (which is sealed) you have fitted, this limits the power you can use. Electric and Power Showers are quite high in power requirements

Thanks. My neighbor seems to have managed it so I will get into the detail next time I'm out. Beginning to think a nice bath seems the way to go :D
 
El Gordo has got it right. Instantaneous electric showers are not sold here because generally the electrical supplies into most apartments are not big enough. Very few apartments have a supply bigger than 25A which is only 5.5kw and well below the size needed for an instant electric shower.
