Great News For those of you old enough to remember the original, authentic Tapas Bar Neptunos, it has this week been reopened by two sons of Martin, Igor and Yako.

Spotless inside and out, and with a chalk board listing various tapas and paella offerings.

We used to love this place with its eclectic mix of diners and drinkers, made up of locals, expats, off duty waiters, tourists and characters.

Great to see it returning to 'family', and regaining an authenticity that had seemed lacking under Tiberi's stewardship.

Wishing you all the best

Cheers Pers.

Fantastic News!!! Is it in the exact same location??? That would be brilliant!

Yes, I remember it well; it has always been the Tapas Bar I liked best in my various travels, and I sorely missed it. Do they still have the same big glass covered bar showing off all the lovely food??

Can't wait until September now.. Best Padron Peppers anywhere!

yes its the same building, same shape footprint, exactly as was, with the quirky, radiused window corners if you remember?

Theres a Bain Marie type display unit but its moved along the bar to the till end and its not in use at the moment, though it would be great if it was recommissioned.

The original aluminium bar stools circa 60's are there and it really does create quite a statement.

never tried the padron peppers; maybe this year.

As an aside, its great to see El Pozo open again, albeit with a new name, but looking like a tapas bar with bar stools and locals et al. add to that Rumbo looking busy and its a real authentic ?tapassy? little quarter thats building up in that neck of the woods.

Great news if you like that sort of thing...and we most certainly do.

Cheers Pers.

Which Miguel? , there were 2 working there together for many years when Martin owned it. The senor .

The Miguel we remember was the gentleman that worked alongside Martin for many years until it closed. Very cheerful man with good English.

There is no prices on board outside...what is the price range like?

It was great to see this thread as Neptuno was one of the family favourites. Most memorable was watching Spain win the World Cup there in 2010, and Miguel carrying my grandson around on his shoulders to celebrate.

We visited last night and enjoyed a thoroughly traditional tapas meal. It was like stepping back a decade with locals standing/sitting at the bar drinking, eating and chatting. The menu is only in Spanish at the moment the owners are quite happy to take people through the dishes. They advise that for 2 people, four plates would be sufficient - it certainly was for us. We had fritos mallorquina, pork and mushrooms, croquettes and padron peppers. With 3 glasses of house wine, coffees, water and olives etc. the bill was just over 40 euros.

We have become used to 'pretty' looking tapas - what my partner terms 'gentrified' - it was great to return to basics... not pretty but tasty.

At the moment they can only accept cash as they have not had time to set up contactless payment.
