Hi Whalleywanderer, sorry that my reply appears a bit back to front but I have noticed this has happended on a few of the posts where the words appear where they should not and even missing.
Yes, that is what the article said but I would suggest asking the operator when booking flights/ferries.

You definitely need a residencia and empadriamento to get the discount. I have had to produce both as said in an earlier reply I gave.

I have just read this in the DDM.

Development in September will require the resident certificate on flights.
MMB PALMA From 1 September the Ministry of Development will require residents of the Balearic Islands of the certificate of registration to board domestic flights. The requirement to prove residency status by an official document in force is contained in the State Budget, which will take effect in early July. However, the Ministry of Development has decided to award two-month moratorium "in order, first, to give a longer period of transition both airlines to adapt their procedures, and users to obtain their certificates and, secondly, that this new procedure does not interfere with the increase of traffic that occurs in the summer, your application will be delayed until September 1. "
Moreover, the PP presented yesterday an amendment the Senate to the general state budget which calls for "the management bodies may be provided by electronic means to the agencies, airlines or sea or delegations" confirmation of compliance with the requirements for payment of the grant.

I get discount with either aeroplane or ferry transport providing I give them my residencia card or paper as proof, they usually just want the number and start/end date. It's 50% for your fare but not the vehicles fare if your travelling by car or van etc.
