Will definitely get the book Pollensa, probably not able to read it before the film comes round though - looks like it should be a pretty thick book! :)

Is very long & split into the 6 stories but first you get the first half of each story 1-5 , all of story 6 (post-apocolypse & in a weird dialect!) & then the second half of stories 5-1). You really need to keep reading it to follow it & I still didn't get all the connections & links between them. I was busy trying to remember what had happened in each one....

Thanks Pollensa. Sounds great - definitely a book to read more than once then! Will get through Game of Thrones first I think, as they sound pretty similar with split venues / times and I dont think my brain would cope! ;)

Just back from the cinema (Les Mis - very enjoyable )

Cloud Atlas trailer was showing - included forest scenes that I think we're probably Formentor, mountain scenes that looked like Tramuntana and a shot of the Galleon in what could have been Formentor Bay

Me too! (and yes, it was good!) Same trailer showing and I mentioned to hubby that someone would soon work out which scenes were Mallorca based ~ you win the prize cd! ;)

Well i have delayed going to see the film until I had finished the book which I now have done and it is an amazing book. I struggled to stick with it at first but that's probably because the first story was my least favourite.

Film has bombed and is now hardly on anywherebut is coming to our local independent cinema in a week or so and I wondered what any of you who have seen the film thought of it

I am guessing that in an attempt to make it film able they have over simplified it or they have gone the other way and it is so detailed that people have struggled to stay with it

Thanks for the info cd. I have to admit I am still struggling with the book. Have given up once to read something else and will try to get back into it again. Not sure if I could manage the film, I have a feeling it would be one of those long ones which I would fall asleep in! ;)

The reviews from the regular cinema goers are very poor, maybe that's why it has bombed. Think i'll wait till it hits the bargain bins before surveying the scenery of Mallorca, not to mention Halle Berry running about the streets of Glasgow in her high-heels.

I saw it! And actually it was a lot better than I expected especially as I loved the book. I was quite worried taking my OH as he had no idea what it was about & I didn't know how easy it would be to follow. Instead of having the 6 stories chronologically, the film jumps between them all - I knew which was which but I wasn't sure how obvious it was to someone who hadn't read it - but he enjoyed it and talked about it quite a bit afterwards.

So if you can, do go see it. The last story (post-apocalypse) is all filmed in the Tramuntana - around Formentor I think - & very recognisable as Mallorca.

It's not the best film I've seen. In fact the best book adaptation I've seen recently was the Life Of Pi - that was amazing & in 3D - very close to the story & wonderful.

But don't write off Cloud Atlas. Go see it & tell us what you think! :)

Will definitely go

Not sure about the idea of all the stories mixing up as part of the thing I loved about the book was the way in which the 6 stories were structured in the same way as the cloud atlas sextet ...... But perhaps that's just the jerkiness in me and is of no interest to most people watching the film

Going next Saturday Shen it opens at our local independent cinema so will report back based upon my views plus mr cd views as he has not read the book
