Fly or Drive???

We have done the drive on many occassions. On the way down is always enjoyable, one year at Easter we even stopped at Eurodisney as a birthday treat for the youngest.

You really only need one overnight stop in the south of France and then Barcelona is only 4-5 hour drive the next day depending on where you stay. And the over night ferry is good too.

It can be fun, educational (as the kids experience french as well as spanish) and actually makes your holiday feel longer.

Coming home can be a different story as you just want to get home once you know you have to leave.

Given the choice I would prefer to fly, or do as I did this summer.I Let hubby drive(as he loves it) and I flew. I had an extra couple of days there too.

We have done lots of driving holidays and in fact plan this summer to visit the three twinned cities to Chester in France southern Germany and Italy... without kids though and in air conditioned sports car!
I know people who used to summer in Ibiza and always went by car from UK, but that was before cheap flights, the car was swung onto the ferry in a big net arrangement... but they stayed for a couple of months.
Santander/Bilbao ferry is ridiculously expensive and takes about 3 days.... Motorail runs various routes, we have used Nice-Calais (the return journey is never such fun as going out) which is pretty pricey but a good experience and worth considering. Somewhere I have some info who to book with, but it is no cheaper than a cheap flight. If you are going for a fortnight the best bet would be a cheap flight if you can get one, you have to keep checking though, I have signed up with all sorts of people but the emails don't always get to you in time...
Good luck! By the way, Venice was fab!

Welcome back PW. So sad to here that your not going to grace the beach at PP this year.
But air con in a sports car, now that sounds fun.

OK :rolleyes

Because of overwhelming opposition, I have admitted defeat on this one :(

We will be flying to PP next July in the usual boring way...

I think it was Rob's message that finally swayed me:lol

Although the option of driving on my own still stands!

Thanks for everyone's advice and replies, though.

Huh!!

At least I have the good grace to let some Forum members I was "sloping off" for a few days away from PP, to the delights of Palma city.

And what happens a lot of frivolous posting going on!:eek

I might have known! Welcome back Penny White ! Need to hear from you.

Then someone is flying on a boring airline. Didn't obviously use my tip for elastic band airlines. However when going with them it's more than your seat belt that needs tightened up! >D

Well here I am.
I did notice a while ago some things in my Inbox which I hadn't replied to, not out of rudeness, just hadn't noticed them and it looked a bit technical.. they were so out of date I just deleted them, hope no-one felt offended.
