Actually BL Frinton is lovely!

I don't think anyone has disputed that Mallorca is a Spanish Island and Pollensa is a little part of that. I don't think that Pollensa as a place is thought of as part of Britain at all. I think when a great number of people from a particular country are attracted to a place then a certain culture comes with them. It has already been noted that in other parts of the Island menus are in German.
I think the point was that different nationalities seem to be attracted to different areas of the Island and that with regret of late PP has become more 'British' in attraction. As stated in my previous post, I feel that this is a shame as a mixture of nationalities has to be more positive for an area. The mixture seems to have gone and I would welcome any other nationality back to PP. Sometimes walking along the front, it could be easy to forget we are not in Britain as the only tongue heard seems to be British.
I also think any owner of property in PP has witnessed a fall in value due partly to the mostly "British Market'. To have an area with a variety of nationalities can only be a plus all round in my opinion.

I was told many years ago that PP did not have many Germans was that the hotels did not meet the required standard set by the tour companies, room sizes etc. Like Sparky we first came in the mid 80's and there was quite a few nationalities, my re-collection is the evening stroll was much more sophisticated, people seemed to make much more of a effort. Suppose fashions change.

I have to say that this post has made me feel quite sad and even a little angry, from my experience there has always been a good mix of nationalities in the port. I personally have regularly met up year on year with German, French, English, Irish, Scottish and Welsh tourists who like me love the resort.
To suggest that "British" tourists are in part responsible for a fall in property prices makes me a little angry Eleanor, are you really implying that other Europians are superior to the British. I sincerely hope this is NOT the case.

The tone of the thread started in quite a xenophobic way but as Sparky say's as long as we are all equal and have the freedom ( which we do as citizens of the EU ) that's fine .

Sorry Sparky - if you are angry with me but I am afraid that yes, I do believe that the British market has had an effect on the property market in Pollensa. I certainly did not imply at all that other European's are superior to the British and frankly that comment makes me very angry!

These are words put in my mouth and certainly not spoken by me!!

If you read my posts I have said not only here but in previous threads and posts too that I very much welcome a good mix of nationalities and I consider it to be very positive. That is in no way against the British only that it adds much more to an area.
As far as property prices go I am afraid, like it or not, they have been affected by a British market in PP. We all are very aware of the pound/euro. I feel if there were more Euro buyers then prices would not have decreased as much in my opinion. I know this for a fact having researched all areas of the island regarding property prices and architectual projects my husband is involved with. I have spoken to many agents locally as well as in other areas of the island too, as I my villa is on the market. My view comes from this research and the obvious.
Please do not be angry, and please be assured that I am anything but anti British!

I think its because they complain when things are not right - unlike us Brits who moan at the table, then when someone comes round and asks, we all smile politely and say "lovely, thank you very much"!

I actually think there is a fair mix of ownership

9 apartments in our block

3 owned by British, 2 spanish, 1 french, 1 italian, 1 couple spanish and Welsh and 1 not sure

I thought there was an increase in French ppl last year and was aware, for the first time of a number of American accents.

Re the Germans , there have been various programs on TV in the past comparing the standard of accomodation deemed acceptable by German tour operators compared to British operators, which bears out what Smiddy & joelise80 were saying.

At the end of the day PP has been going for many a year, nationalities will come and go for whatever reason, but I am sure PP will still be up there in many years to come as one of the loveliest on the Island.

Very true Miriam, i can remember in the mid to late 90's the Germans were selling their Mallorcan properties before the Euro came in 1999, it would seem that after a decade of the single currency they are now confident enough to come back.
Hopefully the worst of the world wide recession (which has been the real reason for the property market crash) is now over and every nationality will come and spend their money in this wonderful land.

The Germans, especially, were buying up and then selling their properties prior to the Euro coming in as a means of getting their money quick. It was all very well planned. Many made thousands and got out quick taking their black money with them. My husband as an architect was involved with many projects over the Island at that time and learnt first hand what was going on. In some ways that pushed the prices up.
Some who were around at that time may recall the German tax officers arriving on the island to go through numerous records and attempt to 'catch out' those making the money.
As someone involved with not just small developments but large hotels throughout the Island my husband describes that time as 'very interesting'!
Many many made lots of money but some with not so good accountants or didn't work quickly enough - lost loads!
Many an owner could be seen heading for or leaving the notary with a plastic bag in hand.!
