Difficult times as around 800 have also lost their jobs - the knock on effect will be felt in Puerto P as well as there are a couple of hotels which relied upon their package tours.

Do they own Sis Pins Hotel in PP or just monopolise it? It would be a shame if anything detrimental happens there as its getting better each year. Hope things work out for Globespans customers:(

we have not had much luck in scotland in recent years with budget airlines going bust

i remember a few years ago a company started up (scot airways) i think they were called and they only lasted a year, then there was the company the chap who owns motherwell fc that flew to the states and canada went bust, cant remember their name either, now globespan

cant see any new airlines starting up in the current climate, lets hope jet2, bmi baby or monarch can step in and fill the void

Gers! Before Globespan/Air-Scot(who were actually Greek) we did not have Ryanair/Easy-Jet flying Gla/PMI,which we now have. So all is not lost! I've just booked 3 weeksx2 in June inc luggage and c/c with Ryan-Air for less than £100, which Globespan could have got nowhere near.
Ryan-Air are fine, i've flown to Palma with both them and Easy-Jet and had no problems, but if anyone is thinking of using them i would not demur, i would book sharpish.

as someone who has been going to pp for more years than i can remember i cant believe globespan have gone to the wall it was the perfect easy holiday for us allways stayed at the la singala (globespan owned)as is the sis pins and have met many friends from staying there , phone was red hot when news announced by friends who we only see once a year wondering what will we do now ? can i also pass on best wishes to all staff at both the above hotels who have always been 1st class brian & annette

so sad re the Globespan debacle..we have visted the singala 3 times..I really would like to contact the staff and express my hopes for the future...cannot believe that this has happened.

Does anyone have a contact number for Josef the manager at Singala? I have tried e-mailing him on his Singala e-mail address without any luck.

smiddy, forgive me as my memory may not spot on but i think before we had globespan etc we had both thomas cook and thomsons doing charter flights that were easy to book flight only, also spanair were flying scheduled flights from prestwick and i also think air hispania and air 2000 i think they were called were both flying scheduled from GLA at time

i make that 5 operators from 2 airports now we're down to 2 from 3 :(

Gers, You're probably right, although i seem to remember trying to get 3/4 weeks was a bit of a nightmare, none of them seemed to do this, only on a fortnightly basis, if you wanted to go for that length of time you had to pay double, hence me having to pay £440 via Heathrow, and that was 10 years ago. The no-frills boys thankfully changed all this.

Very sad about Globespan, and i'll miss them, but, life goes on. Doubt very much if the administrator will have any problem selling the Sis Pins, the others we'll have to wait and see.

Hi Smiddy,

Contacted our credit card company on Friday and they are sending forms for each transaction paid to GSM (we need to porivde copies of our bookings, this we can do but a lesson for us all, print at booking time as you cant' do later if when the web page goes down with the airline) . Also, informed we will be contacted by the adminstrator?

We travelled with Thomas Cook flights only in the past but GSM were more flexible, on time and throughout the year until the recession hit us. Will be looking around on the net in the next few days for replacement flights.

We can travel from Glasgow or Edinburgh and we prefer early morning flights if we can get them.

Hope someone looks deep at E-clear!

Lucky

when out for sunday lunch today we overheard a conversation between 2 ladies one of them was obviously globespan cabin crew and was explaining to her friend a few details

globespan flew 10 planes, but have only been 60% full in past 12-18 months

they had 100,000 seats booked for next year, usually this figure is around 300,000 at this time of year

the £34m that e-clear have in credit card payments will be claimed back by the administrator to pay the employees wages and redundancy and major debtors not individuals who booked

they have been told that no rescue package is likely from a competator

seems they were shedding cash for a long time before now and due to poor bookings for next year the banks decided to pull the plug :(

2/3 years ago Globespan were running a daily flight to Palma from Glasgow throughout the winter. Their schedule for this year at Easter was only 3 flights a week.

The 34m owed to them seems a bit of a smoke screen I think. Their service has been getting poorer and poorer with delays common and it was only a matter of time. I wonder if Ryanair will increase their service to fill the void.

Good point as is a previous suggestion to use your credit card (even though it costs more) as most of us exceed the £100 threshold so, in due time, you should get your money back this way. Globespan were not the only budget airline/operator in trouble - a search will reveal a far larger budget airline who are suffering/cutting back and facing a 30% reduction in forward sales.

thats my feeling also, seems to be standard practice in the airline industry for payments to be held back a bit by e-clear

suppose its the easy option for globespan to blame a 3rd party what with public opinion being the way it is atm towards banks etc

Even with the money owed from E-Clear it would only have kept them going for another 4 weeks, wether that would have made any difference, who knows. What i would say is don't knock the likes of Ryan-Air until you've tried them, peak times don't seem cheap, but other times do, there's only one airport in Mallorca therefore they can't exactly dump you 80 miles from your destination! To be honest i've flown with Globespan at least 3 times a year since they started operations and this would have been the first time i would have probably gone elsewhere, perhaps a lot of others were thinking the same.

Rab, Their prices were certainly getting dearer! but must say of all the times i'd flown with them (20+) i was only ever delayed once. Not bad. Will also miss the bus connection from Palma Airport to PP, this was a good economical way of getting to and from the resort.
