We hired from Goldcar this year - Peugeot 5 door for 2 weeks 371 Euros including their fully comp insurance and fast track collection. No queues and a nearly brand new sparkling clean car - 2 weeks old and 300km on clock - excellent:) Full to empty which we prefer as no searching for a top-up place on the way to the airport:)

I always liked Goldcar, but they went very expensive for fuel and removing the policy excess etc. Cars went "off" too, I think. But it's good to hear that you had a good experience and it sounds like things are back to the "old" Goldcar standard. Hope so. Trouble is, we all have long memories when things go wrong and short ones when they don't!

Flight was delayed last night so arrived just after 23.00. Hit with a 37euro 'after hours' charge. On top of full tank, insurance, extra drivers it's double the original price!

Funny how with car hire now everything turns out double the price. You get a quote from the website and by the time you've added all the rip-off extras including extra insurance, which you dare not have, extortionate full fuel tank price, of which you have no option, mainly having to return empty, children's seats(?) etc. and the soon to be added environment tax it's an expensive game. Particularly when the car probably sits idle most of the time!

Oh, and of course the hire company's bonus of usually plenty of fuel left in the tank when returned!!

It's an expensive luxury these days.

Thankfully we have resort hoppa but depends on how many people and obviously the time of year too. Just been checking car rental for August and as you say - expensive. Thankfully we are able to walk into the Port easily but for those out in the Country it is more difficult especially with a family.

We are out for 3 weeks in October and our intention is not to hire a car except when we need one for days out etc. As you say, it sits idle for most of the time when we are staying in the port, but it's so useful for the first big shop etc. But still cant decide whether to fork out for taxi there and back or the Hoppa - mmmm decisions decisions:confused:
