We're coming to stay in a Villa on the outskirts of Pollenca during Holy Week - this will be our 3rd visit to the area and really looking forward to it. In 2004, we happened upon the Moors/Christian Festival and Mock Battle in Pollence and it was one of the most amazing evenings - the atmosphere was electric, and the smell of alcohol was mind boggling!

Anyway, we've read in various guide books and on this website about the candlelight procession of the Christ statue down the steps to the square in Pollenca and would very much like to attend - does anybody have any advice on things like the best time to get there, where to watch from, what the parking will be like etc etc etc.

Thanks in advance, and can't wait to be there (it's very cold and windy in UK at the moment!).

Sorry for the delay in a reply - maybe you are already here in PP?? However, firstly the Davallement procession as it is known is nothing at all like the Moors and Christians and is a very solemn and almost eerie procession. It commences from the top of the Calvary at approx. 2100hrs in darkness and silence. The solemn beating of the drum, the dark robes (klu klux clan style!) as they descend the steps down into the Plaza Major church. Best place to be - along the steps!! Parking - well it will be a nightmare I am afraid so best to get there early. Actually,, there is another procession on the Thursday night at about the same time which is also very popular - Maundy Thursday procession from the church in Plaza Major.
Enjoy yourselves and be sure to visit the bakers for the hand made easter eggs and special easter pastries!!;)

Thanks for the reply JMD40 - we arrived in PP on Saturday 8th and got back to England yesterday so have only just seen your reply. However, we did actually manage to see both processions. On Thursday, we arrived in Plaza Major about 2 minutes before the procession started and, more by luck than judgement, ended up right at the front of the crowds lining the procession route, so had a fantastic view of all of the musicians, crosses etc. Found the whole thing very moving, particularly the little play-let of The Last Supper that was taking place on the stage during the processions. Parking wasn't so bad that night.

On Friday, we managed to get a few steps up from the flat bit above the little square right at the bottom of the steps. We arrived at about 9pm and could see the candles at the top of the hill. By 10.30pm, the front of the procession had finally reached us!!! Very solemn, very quiet, and very cosy for those of us watching! Parking was a bit more of a nightmare - we ended up leaving the car on the main road by the Ford garage, but that's still only a 10 minute walk so it wasn't a problem.
