As much as we love the Uyal for its olde worlde Spanish charm we decided after a trip to Formentor on Sunday that we would have to take out another mortgage and stay for a week at the Hotel Formentor.
The location is stunning, the beach has everything I enjoy (dinghies, catarmarans, windsurfers, even a pedalo) the grounds are impressive and the website shows how the place is luxurious in every sense.
Does anyone know if there any discount deals for short stays at the Formentor? I would also welcome any info on the cost of meals.
We had a small beer, a coffee and a coca cola at the hotel's beachside bar and it was more than 11 euros, so it is clearly not cheap.
But I still think it would a great place for a couple to stay when our teenage son decides to take his own holidays.

I raved about it after our holiday in July as we had two day trips there: 20 euros per person for the day which you get back off your restaurant bill. I noticed at reception some Thompson and Airtour envelopes so there may even be some packages there (bit surprising).
We ate at the Platja Mar beach restaurant, fabulous buffet (I am not a fan of buffets but this was in a class of its own) and I think despite the three of us having our 20 euros off we paid something like 90 euros, but I can assure you we did not stint ourselves!! Wine, seafood, fillet steak, you name it, the White family pigged out royally.
Nice big pool and a smaller shallower one for children, comfy sunloungers, terrace bar... worth a trip. There is a website for the hotel but it does look rather megabucks, it is 5star after all!
I think my earlier comments are in the Days Out section.

Superb hotel if you like seclusion but the odd conversation with a Brit. Accommodation etc. - expensive but you can book via the 'better' tour operators and get substantial discounts if you book far enough ahead. Try to get a discounted deal on a room which overlooks the bay ... worth paying that bit extra for the morning / breakfast view.

Thanks for the advice. Now searching for the discounts in the hope of arranging a May or late-September break there.
