This all seems a bit silly to me. Of course discrimination on race, religion or sex is totally wrong but just having a hotel for adults only is hardly in the same bracket. As said previously there are many hotels like this everywhere. My children are grown up now so maybe I might prefer accommodation without children's pools, playgrounds, entertainment etc whereas when they were small this would have been the obvious choice. Now that we are free of school holidays it is nice to be able to come when the resort is a bit quieter. It is not as if it is the only hotel in the resort! I think families are very well catered for so why not have the choice of an adult only environment as well.

I have 2 young children whom I adore, BUT if I ever had the opportunity to go somewhere for a few days with hubby, I would choose an adult only hotel. I wouldn't be without my cherubs, but sometimes it's nice to be in the company of other adults without worrying about junior at the back having a paddy or running around bumping into things whilst you're trying to enjoy your sangria and the view. Pp has a vast amount of hotels that cater for families (which personally we avoid because not all kids have the manners and etiquette that my two have, so private accommodation every time!!) And as it's already been said, maybe the Romantic chose this idea because it isn't well equipped for families. You have Saga holidays which are adult only! I personally don't see what all the fuss is about.

Got an e-mail from Cabot about the Romantic and it is meant to re-open after the refurbishment on 11 April (Adults only, minimum age 16

Parents take note that the Romantic is now an anti child hotel.I find this very offensive in a family resort

Is this 16 applying to mental age as well ? If so that lets me out . I've lost count of the times I've been told to grow up, only to respond with " Why ?, so I can be a miserable so and so just like you "

Felt I had to add my tuppenceworth, we have been coming to pp for many years since the kids were small, starting at habitat and as the kids have grown up and away, we have stayed in appartments, hotels and villas, depending on who came with us. The point is that pp for a while has been lacking in adult only, 4 star accomodation and as a ongoing business the holiday season is what will enable it to continue to thrive. I believe this isn't discriminating, its another form of choice, and the more choice the better.

To be honest before I had children I welcomed the opportunity to stay at a child-free hotel. This is not because I don't like children (although I understand that others may not), but because for years we struggled to have our own, and went through years of IVF failures. Being around other people's children was actually really painful and distressing at times - after a failed IVF cycle we would sometimes treat ourselves to a holiday to get over it, and we always tried to choose hotels which were adults-only. I know we were and are not the only people in this position…. so that's another take on the situation. We eventually got lucky and now have two lovely children, and of course now choose hotels where children are welcome - so I can see both sides of the coin. And I suspect that when the girls have flown the nest, or no longer want to spend their holidays with us, we will probably return to adults-only hotels - peace and quiet, especially in areas such as the swimming pool, are an essential part of a holiday for many people and I don't see why anyone should be embarrassed to say so.

Okay, I had my silly moment earlier, so now lets get serious. Romantic goes adult only. What's all the fuss about. This place has always attracted the more mature holiday maker. Its advertising over the 25 years that I have been going to PP has never been aimed at families with children, so what's the problem.
So to anyone that objects to its latest move to go adult only, I ask this. When were you planning to book in there with your offspring ?

Stayed a few times in the Romantic and at no time have the facilities been favourable to a holiday for children. Most rooms really only big enough for 2 people, No pool (use the Polly Park ) no children's entertainment or play areas. Busy road in front of the Hotel with no fence or gate for child safety.
This has always been a hotel catering for mainly adults and I think should as stated should remain so. There are many Hotels locally that cater for children and look after there interests.

Hmmm, I wasn't aware that the romantic offered care facilities, including bed baths and walking frames, but it must have or how else could you have stayed there

I personally think that Cabot had to make this an adult only hotel because it is no longer linked with the Pollensa Park which is now owned by Fergus. There aren't any child facilities in the Romantic but until now they could use the PollyPark for the pool, play area and entertainment. Maybe this arrangement no longer exists, if so by not accepting child guests they will avoid complaints that there is nothing for kiddies to do.

It is unfair to say the hotel is "anti children", the owners are merely being honest with potential guests.

That's a very good point, Sparky - I'd be pretty annoyed if I booked a holiday for the children and there was no pool…. Though with the beach just over the road, I guess it doesn't really need one, at least as far as adults are concerned.

Hi all

Following this thread with interest. Booked to go to the Romantic end of May. Booked the hotel knowing that it was becoming adult only and was being refurbished via this site. When we booked we were told we could use the PP. Had an email from the tour operator saying this was no longer the case and an option to rebook or cancel with no admin fee or loss of deposit. Not that fussed though as we are more beach people. Stayed at the Bellamar apartments a couple of years ago so we know the area well

For information, we are almost next door and yesterday there were men working inside the Romantic. The patio area is nearly done so my guess is it will be re opening fairly soon.

As a PS, there are quite a few men on site this morning, I reckon I saw at least 4 different trades coming and going to the vans outside so I'm even more sure they going to meet the deadline for opening although the outside fascia is still the "old Romantic"

Just walked by and the one side they finished looks to be made of a wicker type material, like the old rolled beach mats. Light is let through so it is a sun shade rather than a rain shelter.........not what I expected though!
