Have just returned after i month's stay and the showers have just been put back!!. Yes PP has changed over the years and this year we did miss the sand sculptures and the stalls in the square at night. It seems to get a bit brash around Bony's but perhaps that is what some people like. Like others I do have a problem with the dog poo (v.bad this year)I thought the beaches were quite clean except for the cigarette ends(put them out in a bucket and take them away with you) I do worry about some of the cyclists particularly on the promenade when young children are running about. I don't know if anything can be done about that. I must mention the Hydro Park -v.clean -good facilities & well worth a visit.I do agree that we should support the local restuarants and no more Tex Mex's etc.
Enough said apart from the fact we all had a great time.

Got back from PP on 16th August after 2 great weeks. The best 2 weeks so far, and we've ben going to PP for the last 6 years.
Was it my imagination, or were the first few days (from the 2nd to about the 6th) really really hot? We could hardly go out from the apartment it was so hot. I'm not complaining, we loved it. Since we got back home it's rained every day!
In response to others recent posts on the Forum, I didn't see any beggars there, just a few guys selling the usual rubbish, watches and flashy light things that's all.
I did notice the dog mess though. I've never noticed it on previous visits. And I did notice the over-flowing bins by the Oro Player. Not sure if they get emptied everyday and then fill up again the same day or if they hadn't been emptied for a few days. I know the recycling bins by our apartment, on the Formentor road by the Spar Supermercat, were emptied every morning very early.
Personally, I think they should bring back the sand sculptures and the market stalls. They added to the great, laid-back atmosphere during the evening strolls along the Pine Walk. Although this year we did see a couple of entertainers blowing huge bubbles and getting the kids involved, who seemed to love it. (And so did we, we stood there for ages watching them!)
As for the non-traditional eateries and the amusement arcade, they don't add to the place in my opinion but I suppose PP has to do what it can to attrract more visitors, and let's face it, without visitors it would just die. But I don't think the council need to do much to improve PP. It's just as great now as it's always been. We'll be back there as soon as we can. I's move there tomorrow if I could afford it.

We are back in PP in just over two weeks time and were quite disappointed to read this posting - we love the stalls on the front at night and the Friday street clown was just brilliant, we are really sorry he won't be there - he was great fun.
Also we agree some nice music playing is a real complement to a relaxing evening on the Pine walk.
Sorry to hear about the dog poo - we are bringing our friends and have raved about Puerto Pollenca and the Pine Walk for so long I hope we are not going to be embarrassed and constantly apologizing.
Lastly - please do something about cigarette end on the beach -absolute YEUK!
In Kefalonia last year all sunbeds had an ash tray which was emptied when the sunbeds were tidied up at night.
PLEASE don't let PP go downhill we love it too much.

There is a dearth of car parking in the town centre, and although the location is really too good for something like a multi-storey, if disguised by shops / offices on the square frontage with a car park behind, it could be a boon to the town.

Dont worry you won't be embarrased

I am not sure where abouts the dog poo is but I can honestly say that we were in PP from 12 to 26 July and walked up and down the whole length of the pinewalk on average twice a day and not one of us stepped in or commented upon any dog poo

And believe you me, I don't lead a charmed life, if theres something to stp in I usually manage it !
 
I stepped in it but it was while we were in the harbour area & these people can't afford pooper scoopers ;-)

Totally agree Acidburn - it is this more than anything in my opinion that' s ruining the charm of PP.How long will it be before more of these monstrocities spring up between the Pollensa Park and the roundabout where the new road meets the coast road.Who in their right mind is giving the planning permission to build these eyesores.
 
Hi all, We now have the sufficient planning to be able to reform that bit of dirty land in pollensa. Also the mayor has put into effect focus on the dog excrement situation. We also spoke about public bathrooms, he said he would look into it however this year it will be quite impossible seeing as so much money has already been spent on the new roads and showers. More news--- From the town roundabout all the way the the Llenaire island/roundabout is going to be to pedestrianized. It will be going into effect over the next month or so!
 
Hi Nick where is this square near is it in front of your offices? That is official now is it about the road being pedestrianized?

Smokers cig stubs on the beach have always been a bug-bear. It would be nice if PP removed these pronto. Would be even nicer if SMOKERS didn't leave them in the first place, our beach is not their ashtray. It might be difficult to speak to a dog and request it to refrain from poo-ing on the pavement. But is it possible to expect smokers to take their rubbish with them.:mad:

Probably more locals than tourists are the culprits with cigarette stubs..Our beach? Or their beach?

I personally haven't really noticed that many butts, but a possible solution which I saw in Athens a couple of years were terracotta pots filled with sand, so cigarettes could be stubbed out easily.

Obviously a dog cannot be asked to refrain from pooing in the street....it's the dog owners responsibilty to get rid of any mess the dog has done it :rolleyes:

I'm obviously talking tongue-in-cheek, just trying to point out that some times, with their antics, you wonder if people have any more brains than dumb animals.

Ofcourse it's not OUR beach, but it certainly not there for others to think they they own it. A wee bit of thought from these people would make the beach cleaners redundant:)
 
Last year there were recycled paper ashtrays which were free in the tourist office for people to use on the beach rather than place the cigarette stubs in the sand. I am sure they will still be available - BUT you can lead the horse to the water but . . . . you all know the rest.
Also regarding the dog poo - the town hall 3 years ago sent out to each registered dog owner a poop scoop, supply of bags and a leaflet explaining new by laws. Bags are available in the town hall offices in Pollensa and Port BUT again you can lead the horse to the water . . . . get the drift. Lots of us have been complaining for years.
Finally, regarding the rubbish - the law is clear that the rubbish should be sorted - there are plenty of selected rubbish containers around the resort and rubbish should not be placed in the bins until after 2000hrs. Their are signs in the papers, on the bins, in the town hall etc.etc. So, why do I regularly witness in Siller cars turn up and place a box of empty wine bottles on the floor next to the bin as opposed to placing each bottle in the bin!! Why do some people place their kitchen rubbish bags on the floor next to the bin for the dogs to destroy instead of opening the lid up (not pleasant I admit) and placing the bag in there.
The laws and rules are in place - the ignorant and irresponsable people are those that are causing the problem and the council is failing to clean up behind these people and penalize them - a few fines would soon make people see that they are serious and people would maybe be a little more thoughtful.
Interesting enough its amazing how many tourists complain about the dustbin men coming around in the middle of the night and ruining their night sleep and holiday. Amazing, surely this is better than the rubbish piling up for two weeks at a time like some places in UK???
 
Hi Nick

Any chance you can get the Mayor to walk down Temple Fielding and see what his opinion of this street is.

I think it must be the worse street in the Port. Is is filled with litter and dog's muck and the street actually smells of rubbish.

As this is the street running alongside the (yet to be opened) Gola Park it is extremely unimpressive.

Does anyone else use the street?
 
We walked up that way last thursday Mariquita and fully endorse your comments. We had to look very carefully where we were walking.
 
My wife & I regularly use Temple Fielding when we visit the Caprabo or Eroski supermarkets on one of visits to PP. The amount of dog's mess this year was unbelievable on the pavement adjoining the new Gola Park. Is'nt it obvious to the Council that once the fencing is removed & the park open that a certain proportion of this mess is going to be transferred into the park.
Has anyone noticed the plastic bag holders situated at the Kiddies park outside of the Guardia Civil offices? I'm not sure if they contain any bags for the use of dog owners but surely this idea could be expanded into the rest of the town ensuring that bags were always available. Also lets see some prosecutions of dog owners who allow their pets to foul the footpaths.
 
Totally agree with all comments about Temple Fielding. It is really disgusting and certainly not very impressive right next to the nature walk!

It seems to be a dumping ground for all sorts..I nearly tripped over an ironing board last week that was lying on the pavement :eek:
