jumped into here after Celler el Moli. This new members club is beside Alhambra juts round the corner from the square in Pollensa.

Fab, classy, chic, expensive.

4E for a bottle of Estrella compared to 1.85 in Club Pollentia I'm not sure you could stay there all night boozing although I think members will get a discount.

I just find these places very off putting. The tourists are driving the life and culture out of the town. I'm embarassed to look the local OAPs in the eye when I say good morning.

There's another new restaurant popped up called Novageu or some such waffle. It's where Cancosta and Talent used to be. I walked past the front door and they had 2 vintage projectors in the foyer and gold everywhere. I'm glad to say it was quiet in there.

I'm happy to eat at Club Pollença and have a cold beer on the roof later.

The old projectors are there as the building was the original cinema in Pollensa. Have tried to google this new restaurant but the name doesn't come up, but surely it's a Mallorquin/ Spanish word so not sure why you think it 'waffle'. Hopefully it will be as good as Ca'n Costa as no other restaurant there since has compared to it IMO

I'll be honest, there are a few things which upset me while I was there. For example, I got woken up one night by a group of brits (drunk) walking down our street making a lot of noise and they had kids running about with them using rather coarse language and it was so embarassing to think that my neighbours probably associate those brits with me. I'm really trying to stay quietly under the radar and be friendly and then this happens. We are privileged visitors to this place and we should do our best to treat it with respect.

In the old days, well 25years ago, Can Costa was probably the best restaurant in town along with the short lived Daus, they, in my opinion laid the basis for what Pollenca is now, a smart place to eat,drink and watch the world go by. A perfect alternative to the port and they compliment each other. Is there anywhere else you get two contrasting towns that live side by side in such harmony!!!
They make northern Mallorca so special,end of.

Absolutely agree with you jonquet! Can Costa was fabulous and a really special place as was Daus. The good old days! Manola went from Daus to restaurant Siller which brought the magic from Pollensa to the Port. All three restaurants sadly missed.

Don't be so hard on yourself. Mallorcan folk are not daft. If they thought that way us Brits would be banned full stop.
They know how to sort the wheat from the chaff. (or should that be chav)

I don't recognise that beer. What is it like? Looks like an ale type drink.

The new restaurant is Fogoneu (btw it is a Spanish grape variety, so not 'waffle') and has been opened by the owner of Q Onze in the Square. We had a long chat to him both about his new venture and about Onze (which seems to be doing well - would thoroughly recommend it). Interestingly, he said he is reliant on the tourist trade partly because locals tend to be incredibly conservative about new restaurants - he said it was a year before he managed to attract a Mallorcan customer base. So that's another side of the situation. I'm at a loss as to why anyone who loves Pollensa would want to discourage anyone brave enough to invest considerable money and time into opening up a new business - Ca'n Costa in its heyday was a great restaurant and its successors have all failed to make it work - would you rather have a vibrant new business or an empty building? I suspect the locals also would rather their town was full of thriving, successful businesses which bring wealth and employment opportunities to the local economy. I'm delighted Fogoneu is keeping the projectors - far from being a gimmick they are part of the history of the place and give it a unique character. I really hope Fogoneu does well - surely there's room in a town like Pollensa for more innovative restaurants even if they are aimed primarily at tourists? Re Jimmy's Bar - yes, it is on the expensive side but members get a sizeable discount on food and drink. Membership is currently 150 euros going up to 200 euros later this year - hardly extortionate given the amount of money they have spent on the place. We had a cocktail there on a wet day (it was packed) and noticed that it was a mixture of ex-pats and tourists, both British and German - no Mallorcans, but then obviously it isn't aimed at Mallorcans. They have refurbished the place beautifully and are offering other activities such as exercise classes, cinema nights, Spanish language classes - if I lived in Pollensa, especially if I was on my own, I might well be tempted to join - I'd certainly be made welcome by the lovely staff. Cafe Espanyol and Club Pollensa are wonderful, but not necessarily somewhere I would be comfortable to sit in the evening as a single woman.(Jimmy's cocktails are amazing btw - their strawberry daiquiri was delicious!)

I spent a few days in the town last week, visited Jimmy's and it's fabulous. Beautiful place,cool,stylish and drinks are reasonably priced.
It's a different venue to everywhere else, go and enjoy it!
If you're watching the pennies and you don't want to treat yourself whilst on holiday, it's not for you.
I paid 8 euros for a negroni,it was lovely, how much would you pay in uk,I suspect the same or more.
No ones going to go everynight and stay 2 hours,but it's well worth a visit.
The owner is British and a lovely welcoming lady.
