Live music this week in Puerto Pollensa 2020

Now the local Council has decided to put on mini free outside music concerts.
Details are a bit sketchy but this is what they have published so far.....

"To get off to a good start in July 2020, there are endless concerts all over the town. These will set the pace and provide a good atmosphere some evenings of summer 2020. Every Wednesday and Friday until the beginning of September, you can enjoy two performances in Pollença, one in El Moll and one in Cala Sant Vicenç. The music can be heard from 20:00 to 22:00. The councillor for culture, Josep Marquet, explains that there will be concerts "in small groups and in small format", where the public will sit and wear masks if the distance cannot be maintained. In this regard, he adds that "if there is accumulation, it will stop."

This Wednesday, as part of the endless concerts, in Pollença we can hear Jah Bless at the Monument, and Jive Ham in the Plaça Vella. At the Port (Puerto Pollensa), Disaster Duo will perform on Passeig Anglada Camarassa and in Cala Sant Vicenç, Julie and Pep Toni in Cala Barques.

And The Machins and Arnaud Bazin will put the soundtrack on the first Friday in July in Pollença. They first will perform on Friday in the Plaza Mayor and the second in front of the museum. On the other hand, Dani and Joana will play in Plaça Miquel Capllonch del Moll (Puerto Pollensa) and Jaume Mas in Cala Molins.

A little round up on the live music front....all being well The Hustlers will be playing at La Roca Beach bar today from 4.30pm ish. Sadly the bar got broken into a couple of days ago so we hope they have managed to fix everything.
The owner of La Roca beach bar has put out a special plea to everyone going today, that they wear face masks and maintain social distance whilst on the beach.

Maria Antonia will also be at La Roca Beach bar tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon from 4.30pm ish. Guillermo and friends will be playing at the Jolly Roger in Alcudia tomorrow afternoon. Alex Sebas Kohli will be playing a solo set at Plaza Uno Restaurant from about 9pm on Sunday evening.

And just announced - Guillermo Segui will be playing at Norai Bar on Tuesday evening.

Thursday 23rd July 2020 - Guillermo Segui and friends at Hostal Borras in the evening (postponed from 16th July 2020 due to Virgen del Carmen festival celebrations in the port).
Friday - live music in Tecun Bar with Guillermo Segui.
Friday - dine at El Posito (set menu) with music by Alex Sebas Kohli
Friday evening 24th July 2020 - at the Marenita Beach Bar (Hotel Galeon Suites) there will be live music from 8pm with jazz band Gran Bazar
Friday 24 July 2020 evening Cacho Petrello at El Casinet Restaurant from 7.30pm
Saturday - Please note that sadly The Hustlers at La Roca Beach bar has been cancelled this week as it coincided with La Patrona festivities. Live music with The Hustlers will resume the following Saturday 8th August 2020.

A sad but understandable message just posted on Facebook by La Roca Beach Bar....
"La Roca communicates that at the moment and due to responsibility we cannot perform the traditional concert on Saturday afternoon.
For now and until we see an improvement in the health situation, we must make this difficult decision.
The chiringuito continues open as always with cocktails, food and drinks and ambient music where you can enjoy a wonderful day.
But for now we must avoid large crowds.

A kind friend, Ziggy Doran, currently in Puerto Pollensa has put together this little summary about some of the live music events this week in Puerto Pollensa.

"The music scene in PP this week is, for me, a tale of three exceptional ladies. Guillermo Segui Rotger's Thursday night carnival of sorts at Hostal Borras Borras was governed by the audience this week, who demanded that the maestro offer another spot to the peerless Eleanor. How could he refuse?! For those 'pop pickers' who aren't here, keep an eye out for this chica who turns 91 in four weeks time and clearly has a big future ahead of her!

How do you follow Eleanor? Ask Kristine Oxlund who was handed that unenviable task by the twinkling Guillermo! Kristina delivered her signature tune 'I Can't Give You Anything But Love', before making my Brown Eyes Blue and exiting to another well deserved standing ovation. This talent spring of PP truly is a torrent!

Earlier, on the other side of town at Bar Norai Puerto Pollensa, the Disaster Duo had performed their unique brand of jazz, rock, hip hop (with even a little bit of Chopin thrown in this week). How to describe the Duo to someone who hasn't seen them? Zany, energetic, irrepressible, fun (and that's just pianist Felix von Harnack!) to be honest, the only thing I don't like about them is their name? I'd have called them, 'Beauty and the Beats', which is the best description that I can come up with for them. They closed their set with, 'After The Party's Over' and Sofia Ise's voice soared over the bay as the hushed audience were held spellbound. The new restrictions come into force today and one can only hope that Sofia's words don't turn out to be prophetic...

Thanks to all of the performers who have maintained the PP vibe in these difficult times and thanks to all of you who responded to my last post. Hopefully it won't be too long before the return to PP of all absent friends: it's just not the same without....YOU!"

A couple of new gigs in Puerto Pollensa this weekend:-

Jaume Mas will be performing at Store Formentor on Saturday 12th Sept 2020 evening from 8pm. He's a local man and he has a great voice. He was runner up in the Spanish version of tv programme The Voice . (Mañana sábado concierto de Jaume Mas a partir de las 20horas!!! Os esperamos)

And on Sunday afternoon, Guillermo Segui will be singing at Store Formentor from 4pm.
