Meraki

We were in PP this afternoon for Test&Fly tests - all good - we're going home :-( and were walking back across the square to get a taxi when the rain started. We had lunch planned back in Pollensa but we made a snap decision to stay I pp for some tapas . A Google brought up Meraki. I noted some negative reviews but most were responded to very fairly by the owner so we gave them a try. What a lovely experience! They obviously have some very regular customers but the service we received was excellent. The plates we chose very tasty too. Favs were the frito Mallorquín and the pumpkin croquettes.

Totally agree....been twice since it opened - excellent both times. Frito Mallorquín is excellent (and v filling)

Sadly, we had a less good experience at Meraki last week. Having been several times before and enjoyed the tapas there, we were disappointed to be served 'pimientos del padron' which were very charred, greasy and over-salted. The chicken wings were also burnt & drowning in a very sweet sauce. As a saving grace, the meat balls were delicious thank heavens!

Did you let them know? The comments on Google reviews seem to suggest the react positively to criticisms

Not on this occasion, as the staff there seemed extremely busy when we went there. It took a while to get served and a very long time to get the bill. It was a shame that the food wasn't up to its normal good standard on that occasion.

Whilst mentioning pimientos del padron - has anyone managed to have some really hot ones served recently? We've had some fiercely hot ones in the past - and by that I mean years and years ago.

Padron peppers are a favourite of ours but I don't think we've ever had a dish that I would call spicy. They must fry them in chilli oil?

They are traditionally grown in Padrón, Galicia (northwest Spain), which is also the origin of their name.
I was told that these are the only authentic ones where we play Russian roulette with the occasional really hot one, it seems most that we get these days are a watered down version .

Agree completely Lorenzo. The last time I had any portion with more than one hot pepper in it, was in Neptuno, and that wasn't yesterday!!

Well we were in Tothem last night and had a plate of padron peppers along with other delightful modern tapas. My goodness some were hot quite - probably about 30%. Asked Dani about it and of course neither he nor his chef can tell which ones are going to be hot but agreed it was unusual to have so many. Good job I liked them a bit spicy!! Lovely meal overall and a great addition to the Port

Must admit we love the hot ones but have not had one for years & Er Indoors eats em by the bucket.

I love them too but get bad indigestion if I eat too many (eg bucket)! We've managed to grow some here in Scotland so will be trying our own shortly.
