A while ago someone (I think it was probably Pollensa) came up with a great link to a company who could supply mobile cards for pay-as-you-go laptop broadband connection in PP.

I've just been searching thru previous posts but can't find the details.

Can you help? I'm desperately trying to find a way to get decent internet access in the villa without having to pay a monthly fee when I'm not there.

I have a pay-as-you-go mobile broadband USB modem from Vodafone Spain which operates at speeds up to 3.6mbs:-

It's an excellent product available for 139 EUROS. 1GB of download can be purchased for 60EUROS.

There is a Vodafone shop on Avenida Argentina in the old town of Pollensa and another in Alcudia on Avenida de los Principes de Espana.

I bought mine in a Vodafone concession in one of the Carrefour hypermarkets in Palma.

Pollensa - managed to buy a PAYG that was returned, so they will get for you to order.

This might help:- USB modem does not work with Vista, so stick with XP for now.

I have battled for nearly 2 years with Telefonica to get ADSL in Gotmar (yes, you may already have it but they will not provide any new connections until the copper is upgraded)

I have regulary used Caramba Cafe and enjoyed great coffee and great service, but I need to work early mornings and late nights so need to be independant. I now have the Vodafone PAYG with 1GB and without going over the top my life has changed. I can work out here for longer periods without returning to the UK.

For anyone struggling to get a connection, please drop me a line and I will give advice if I can. Once again, this forum has been invaluable.

Now I am going over thr top here and need to log off. I have just done a test to see how fast this Vodafone 3.6MB card is and the results confirm my experience:-

In simple terms, it compares well to an entry level ADSL connection, but as a user the results seem to be much better.

Has anyone else managed to buy the vodafone PAYG 3G USB modem yet?

Is only 119 Euro and includes 25 Mb of data on the Sim.

Top ups are cheap as James mentions.

60 Euro for 1Gb of data, thats only about £42 GBP and no contract, just top it up at the start of each holiday.

T-mobile charge me £8 GBP per Mb for roaming data on my UK phone, that would be £8,192.00 for the same 1 Gb I could have for 60 Euro (£42 GBP) with spanish vodafone if I could buy one !


Only problem is no shop appears to want to sell them to tourists. Only on Contracts when you ask....

Is just about as fast as my home broadband.

Much easier and safer than finding internet cafes.

makes holidays a lot easier for me.

Recommended if you can find one to buy
