The case began in the area reserved for bathing of dogs but have spread throughout the harbor area. Veterinarians who have attended most cases suspect is a poison used to kill snails
.

The area for walking and bathing dogs was closed yesterday and marked with signs warning him.
Pollença Council has closed the beach Llenaire due to several cases of poisoning resulting in death dogs . The poisonings began in the area for pets, but now spread throughout the Port Beach.

Since the opening of the beach area pet enabled in Puerto Pollensa there have been several cases of poisoning of animals . After the death of the first animal, in June last summer, the area was closed. So, knowing that Llenaire in the enabled area was dangerous, pet owners began to walk their dogs for the rest of the beach. However, since November Already seven dogs that have died from eating poison spreading , not only in the area of canine recreation, but for all harbor beach. The latter were three cases last Sunday, January 18th.

Veterinary
Clinic Moixica Since, in which many have tried affected dogs, it is noted that the cause venom appears to be a tragedy matacaracoles due to symptomatological picture presented animals. Said poison acts between two and six hours after dosing, depending on the size and weight of the animal. The first visible symptoms include vomiting, lack of coordination and tremors, before arriving at the final stage, in which seizures occur . If you get to the finals is difficult to carry the animal, if not have a specific treatment.

Nevertheless, responsible for the clinical explain that you have given several samples of diseased animals to Seprona, which is responsible for conducting a toxicological study to determine exactly what substance it is. Similarly, deny rumors that might be a rat poison , because they act in three days and only cause internal bleeding, nothing to do with their symptoms known cases. And the poison has been known to cause even, in one case, severe animal, which despite being stable and have passed the critical stage, eventually had to be sacrificed brain damage.

The alarm and indignation among frequent visitors to the beach stretches for social networks , denouncing the lack of monitoring by the police and the City Council and requesting that signs be placed not only in the authorized area, but across the beach , warning of the danger.

For now, it is well known that ground zero is Llenaire , but recent cases occurred outside the club Pollentia, this Sunday, or the area in front of the hotel Ullal.

Affected
Magdalena, owner of one of the poisoned animals does not see a solution because argues that "it is very difficult to find the culprit, the neighbors try to be outstanding, but they can deposit the substance morning. The manager can be anyone . " Your dog managed to escape after being sick for two weeks, three of them barely able to move. And that, according to its owner, the amount of ingested poison should be minimal, as only lost sight few seconds.

The Animal Shelter of Pollença also denounces the terrible situation, stressing the danger involved, and not only for animals but also for the children, who often play on the beach. "We hope not to regret any deaths " .

This is an awful situation when is it going to stop when a child is poisoned and possibly killed, do people not see what could happen, are they so obsessed with dogs on the beach. It will be very hard to catch the culprits the poison can be put down at any time day or night, I wish the authorities good luck and pray that no more incidents happen.

Just spotted one of the beach cleaning machines on the stretch of sand between Stay and La Gola jetty and wonder if its to do with the problem as never seen them at this time of year

It could be Cath but they do have a responsibilty in their contracts to keep the beach maintained through the winter and after yesterday's rain may need to make some channels.

Yes, i think Lollipop is correct this has just been posted on the ajuntament FB page :-

Us informam que l’Associació de veïns del Port de Pollença ja ha començat a passar la màquina per la platja.

We are informed that the Association of residents of Puerto pollensa has already started to move the machine along the beach.

It is just horrifying to think that such an evil person is at large - it may not be practical but the beach really should be monitored 24/7 until the twisted minded person is caught.

I honestly don't think it is possible, it is a large area and would take an awful lot of people.

This is all over social media, papers and TV now, so hopefully they will get to the bottom of this before anymore deaths!

The latest from the DDM translated by Google here :- Pollença insistirá ante la delegación del gobierno para instalar cámaras en Llenaire - Diario de Mallorca

Pollença will urge the government delegation to install cameras in Llenaire
The decree requiring dogs to wear the muzzle will be extended to all the beaches of the municipality and cover penalties for offenders.

Dog owners should exercise caution on the beaches of the municipality.
The municipality of Pollença is seriously studying the possibility of re-directed to the government delegation to express the need to install surveillance cameras in the vicinity of the beach Llenaire to improve security control over this part of the coast where in recent weeks there have been several deaths of dogs for alleged poisoning .

It will be the second time that the municipal institution claims to the government delegation authorization for the installation of video cameras. The first was in the late summer of last year 2013, when probed this possibility after a dog die poisoned on the beach in Llenaire, a case which added to an earlier place in the same enclave of the coast, the only Pollença in which free entry is allowed pets.

On that occasion, the response of the government delegation was negative when considering the installation of cameras was "disproportionate" to answer two "point" animal deaths by poisoning . Now, the situation is more serious because in total there have been up to seven cases of dogs that have died by ingesting a toxic product has not yet been identified. The City Council is confident that the government delegation reconsider its refusal in order to improve surveillance of the area and prevent future breaches.

Muzzle at all beaches

Moreover, the council 'pollencí' is drafting the decree that was to dog owners require placing the muzzle on all the beaches of the municipality , not just in the sands of Port where there have been cases of suspected poisoning.

The decree will consider penalties for owners who do not comply with the obligation to put the muzzle on their pets, but the Councillor for Environment, Maria Buades said that the municipal purpose "is not recaudatorio", but seeks to improve safety dogs . He also said that should also be tied , although this obligation is already plastered on municipal regulations.

Buades said that so far, no developments in the investigation, although he said the Seprona Civil Guard is the body responsible for carrying out the investigation.

Just a thought but could local residents in Llenaire set up webcams to monitor the area as it would be much cheaper and quicker than the local police/council.

I dont live in PP or have dogs so dont know exactly what is happenning but is it poisonong or something naturally surfacing on the beach ?

I live in the New Forest and a lot of dogs have died here but in winter only It has been very extensively investigated and no real conclusions have been reached People obviously let there dogs travel large distances here when they are walking Extensive soil sampling have been taken but the only thing they have come up with is that if a dog has a cut or lesion it is more likely to get it and it has been linked to Alabama Rot from the USA

It only happens in the winter and last winter was bad as it was very wet They have put signs back up on the forest car parks for the winter and so far this winter less deaths but it hasnt been so wet so is something that is there not rising to the surface ?

They did give one dog a complete blood transfer and he survived and it was on television They do deteriorate very very quickly I know

It is definately not poisoning here but have no idea what the local attitude to dogs in PP is Vets would have to say what these dogs have died from

Money has been raised here to investigate this strange illness

So just a thought

could be copper , how ever where i live , we have a lark park and it has been discovered that some person or persons have been leaving tennis balls covered in poisonous substances , that gullable dogs would pick up and subsequently died from these balls , but not saying it is that in pp but im a dog walker and am very cautious of anything abandoned for a dog to easily pick up , but i do know of a poisonous algae in water that does kill animals

Seprona (the Nature Protection Service) which is a branch of the Guardia Civil are conducting the investigation and we will have to wait until they have all the results from that. In the meantime all that we can do is be vigilant and of course report any suspicious activity to Seprona on 971 86 58 42.

We have just been for a walk up as far as Joseps(tango) Plenty of notices all along the beach..dogs on beach..were they muzzled - no..I suppose if the notices have only just gone up though it wil take a little time

I assume if they are muzzled, they cannot lick/eat anything that will poison them, though won't help with their paws. Dogs in the New Forest have been poisoned recently, some sort of fungus causing a virus. Whatever the reason, I would not be taking my dog (if I had one) (wish I did) on the beach at the moment.

Well at least they're (finally) taking it seriously. We have a dog, live in Pollensa, have been using the beaches this winter (and llenaire last summer) and have been utterly shocked by all this.
Now this has such a high visibility, they will have to do something, since it only takes a rumour in the mainstream press, to destroy a holiday resort's entire tourism income. Overnight. Why would people want to risk their children on a beach where the locals poison peoples dogs - that'll be the perception (allegedly - still need the Vet toxicology reports back I guess) ?
Let's hope they find out what's going on soon.

Not that it makes any difference but it isn't necessarily a "local" who is doing this, it could also be a frequent visitor who doesn't want dogs on the beach.
