This has been posted on FB by Lorraine Hannen who had a meeting with Andres Nevado Rodriguez yesterday :-
I am so pleased that I arranged a meeting with Andres, as I now feel that there may be light at the end of the tunnel, albeit a long tunnel!
I took Juan Aguillar to translate, a friend of mine who is a retired headmaster and a friend of Andres. Although Andres did not speak any English, I got the impression that he was wanting to be as helpful as he possibly could.
He told us that the present bus station was temporary and the project to relocate to the back of the town was underway. He showed us the plan of the new bus station location on his computer. It is to be moved to the piece of land between the Colonya Bank and the Formentor by pass. Buses will travel from the sea plane roundabout along the by pass as far as the football ground, and would not be entering the centre of town.
At the moment discussions are going on between Local Government, Palma and the Transport Company. Budgets and contracts to carry out the relocation have to be sorted out.
I asked when would the move take place. Andres suggested September or October.
We went on to discuss the present problems, i.e. the noise and fumes from parked buses. Andres said that the Police are fining the Transport Company if the driver does not turn his engine off, and there had already been a couple of fines. I will monitor this over the next couple of days to see if they do in fact turn off their engines.
I hope you find the above information is helpful.
