The channel 4 programme 'Homes by the Med' is coming from Mallorca this week, here's the write up

The Island of Mallorca will feature in episode three of this new Channel 4 series which is scheduled to be broadcast on Tuesday 3rd May and will undoubtedly portray some stunning properties!

It looks as if it will be shown on More4 this Tue 3rd at 21:00:

"Episode 3 - Mallorca

Charlie heads to the Mediterranean island and visits a home carved in the rocks, a finca in a forest and an award-winning eco home in an orchard of figs."
 
Douh, I posted the reminder and then forget about it, i shall have to watch it on catch up, did anyone see it, was it good?
 
For anyone who is interested, Red Rum at Bacares is now open. Been there for lunch today. Good value and absolutely beautiful sitting at the water's edge with that fantastic view across to PP.

Ok thanks, I shall still watch it, surprised they didn't feature the villa you can see on the way to Formentor on the boat, before they make them knock it down!!
 
Council of Majorca to

Following the traffic chaos last Saturday caused by the Mallorca 312 cycling trial and with the Ironman triathlon taking place this coming Saturday, the Council of Majorca has announced that it will be developing regulations to "bring order" to sports events using roads. In a statement, the Council has acknowledged that the situation last Saturday resulted in a great deal of inconvenience for the public and also for tourists (non-cycling ones). It is necessary, therefore, to "to reflect on and balance the importance of cycling with the public's daily life".

More than 1,000 British expatriates per day in Spain are going online to the UK government webpage where Britons can register to vote in the EU referendum. The British Ambassador Simon Manley recently described the strong interest among British expatriates in voting in the referendum as “very encouraging”.

Clicks on the www.gov.uk/register-to-vote from computer users with Spanish IP addresses have averaged more than 1,000 daily since the overseas voter registration campaign began on 4 February.

More than a quarter of a million Britons live in Spain and the large majority are thought to be eligible to vote. You must have been on the UK electoral roll within the last 15 years, or if you were under 18 when you left then at least one of your parents must have been on the electoral list.

The deadline to register for an overseas postal vote is 16 May, in order for ballot papers to be sent out from 23 May in time for them to arrive and for you to send them back. Simply visit www.gov.uk/register-to-vote with your passport, National Insurance number and last UK postcode. The process takes just 5 minutes.

Majorca, we are being told, is registering the best May ever in terms of tourist numbers and tourist spending, and this is especially so in three of the principal resort areas: those of the hoteliers for Playa de Palma, Palmanova-Magalluf and Alcudia-Can Picafort.

Jaime Horrach of the Alcudia-Can Picafort association says that there are more people, more occupancy and more spending. "In our area the average occupancy is around 90%, more than ten points up from 2015."

The property rentals' market has undergone a radical turnaround in the past twelve months. Demand has gone through the roof, there is hardly any availability for all-year rentals and the rents themselves are back at pre-crisis levels.

... In coastal tourist resorts, the rental boom is meaning, as has been previously reported, that seasonal workers as well as residents are finding property hard to come by and at affordable rents.

A further reason for the migratory trend out of Palma is that property owners, especially in the old town, are opting to rent out to tourists and so increase their returns. A studio apartment in Palma typically now costs 500 euros a month, while a two-bedroom flat is 700 euros minimum.

Because of all this, estate agents are no longer bothering to advertise flats to rent, as the adverts produce so many calls. During the crisis years, it was not unusual for a flat to be advertised for up to two months. This no longer happens.

News report

The Mallorca Zeitung has reported the death of a 69 year old British Woman last night - hit by a car on the road between Pollenca and Puerto Pollensa it happened at circa 23.45 and despite an ambulance being quickly on the scene plus a doctor and the police attending nothing more be done.

Yes Tiggy i have just read this in the local papers, it's tragic, the poor lady had only been here for a few hours, very sad :(.
 
My husbands Aunt was killed many years ago in Brussels by looking the wrong way when crossing the road so as a family we look left right left many times befrore crossing
 
I can remember years ago two women got killed on the road by the Rosa Blanca. The authorities think they had followed their husbands across the road, chatting to each other while walking home at night, and hadn't looked. It was after that they put the roundabout there to slow the traffic. A terrible warning to remember to keep your wits about you...all too easy on holiday when you're relaxed to let your guard slip.

Tots continue their attacks over Puerto Pollensa management » Balearics » News » Majorca Daily Bulletin

The war of words between the main opposition party in Pollensa and the town hall over conditions in Puerto Pollensa continues. Tots per Pollença, led by former mayor Tomeu Cifre Ochogovia, have now drawn attention to concerns about bookings for the resort, the consequence of worries expressed by potential visitors on reservation forum websites, Trip Advisor most obviously.

Highlighting comments on social media is just one aspect of the ongoing charges that Tots are levelling against the administration, with the absence of beach services now the greatest controversy in Puerto Pollensa. The tender for the services was, as reported on the Bulletin's website at the weekend, suspended because of deficiencies in the specifications, ones pointed out by Tots.

The UMP accepts that things could have been done better but is asking, in so many words, that all parties pull together and find solutions rather than start fights. Thursday's council meeting may be the chance for this. Or it may prove to be rather lively.
