It appears to be a case of domestic violence .

A man kills his wife stabbed in the Port of Pollença.

A man has killed his wife to death in Puerto Pollensa this morning.

The tragic incident took place about 11:00 hours on the second floor of a building located on the street Verge del Carme when the offender has agreed into the floor and attacked the woman with a knife, asestándole several stab wounds.

The victim, 46, has managed to escape to the roof and called for help but the attacker followed and continued stabbing her until he has ended his life before the astonished gaze of several of its neighbors who have called the police.

It has been the fact that the couple's son-about twenty years, and who does not live with them had decided to spend the night at her parents' home. On hearing the cries of her mother has awakened and, as has been reported to the police, he has seen his father covered in blood and with a knife in his hand so he has fled to the street half naked and crying for help.

Some witnesses have said that already in the street, the father and son have engaged in a fight and who have been separated by several people who were in the place.

A few minutes have personado units of the local police of Pollença, which have been the first to llegar- well as the Civil Guard and two ambulances.

Victim and perpetrator are of Romanian origin and had lived in Spain since October 2006, although only about three months ago they moved to Port de Pollença. Several neighbors have noted that marriage relations had deteriorated to the point that they no longer lived together and the woman was willing to seek a divorce.

Northern towns wanting a bus service to connect them » Balearics » News » Majorca Daily Bulletin

Representatives of five town halls in northern Majorca - Alcudia, Muro, Pollensa, Sa Pobla and Santa Margalida - have met with local hoteliers and the head of the Majorca Transport Consortium (CTM) and made a plea for improved public transport. The feeling among the five town halls is that for too long they have been at the back of the queue when it comes to this public service. They have, therefore, made a specific request for there to be a bus service that connects the five municipalities.

Sa Pobla's mayor, Biel Ferragut, said that connections between Sa Pobla and the rest of the northern area were "absolutely zero" and proposed that there be a connecting service for the five towns as this would be of benefit to both residents and tourists.

The mayor of Alcudia, Antoni Mir, believed that a service which connects the town with Sa Pobla would make it easier for Alcudia residents to use the rail service, while Pollensa's councillor for trade and tourism, Iliana Capllonch, stressed the need for public transport connections to Sa Pobla because its health centre gives physiotherapy and rehabilitation treatment.

A regular bus to/from Sa Pobla carefully - timed in connection with the railway timetable - would make the excellent rail line accessible for trips to Palma and all places in between. It is an asset that cannot be properly used by visitors to PP at present unless you have a Hire Car. Perhaps the majority of H.C. drivers would not wish to use the train but it is very much of use if you don't want to get snarled up in the heavy traffic of Palma, also the bonus is not having to find parking spaces in Palma which can be expensive. Overall the railway is excellent... if it goes where you want to go!

Sa Pobla does seem badly served by buses...i've got the train into palma a number of times from Inca - a great service, but so is the bus service into the city direct from PP.

Cameras near the Inca motorway exit.

DGT, the Traffic directorate, has installed cameras on motorways (and possibly other roads), which record all number plates, regardless of whether any offence is being committed. Primarily, these cameras are checking for vehicles without insurance or a valid MOT (ITV, to give it the local acronym). ...

One of the points where these cameras have been placed is behind a large road sign on the Inca motorway by the exit for Consell and Alaro. ...

The cameras on the Inca motorway are, it is understood, not the only ones: there are others that are likewise hidden by road signs on other roads

Majorca summer fire-prevention campaign is launched » Balearics » News » Majorca Daily Bulletin

The annual fire-prevention awareness campaign was launched by the Balearic environment ministry yesterday. Under the slogan "your safety depends on you", the campaign appeals to public responsibility while stressing the avoidance of negligence.

The campaign, which will run from 15 June to 15 August, will feature adverts on television and radio as well as in print and social media and on outdoor billboards. It isn't concentrating solely on forests as the potentially most dangerous fires arise where woodland is right by urban developments. Tourists are to also be addressed in order to heighten their awareness of fire risk....

... the risks are clearly greater under certain weather conditions and when forests are also in specific conditions, i.e. very dry in summer. As these conditions now exist, there is the need to hammer home the message and to emphasise that everyone is involved in fighting fires, not just public bodies.

Pollensa way ahead in the supply of legal holiday homes » Balearics » News » Majorca Daily Bulletin

The number of legal holiday homes in the regions of Majorca (i.e. outside Palma) has increased considerably in recent years. There are now 54,938 places in these properties which are generally sold via well-known websites.

Pollensa is the clear leader with 8,666 places in 1,502 legal houses (villas, chalets). This number equates to one in every ten inhabitants of Pollensa offering a holiday home. High though the number is, there has been stagnant growth for a few years.

After the summer, he adds, there will be legal reform that will add properties in apartment blocks, which will pose a great challenge. "We have to study closely what the conditions will be for this reform and do so in liaison with the island councils."

Sales of tourist excursions have fallen by 40% » Balearics » News » Majorca Daily Bulletin

Travel agencies in the Balearics are reporting a 40% decrease in the sale of tourist excursions over the last four years - which amounts to 800,000 fewer people.

Miguel Morales is the president of the Aviba excursions' commission (Aviba being the travel agencies' association). He says that sales had been falling across the Balearics but that there was an acceleration from 2011. This has been mainly attributed to the impact of all-inclusive hotels.

The excursions which still have high levels of sales are the traditionally popular ones: the caves, such as Drach, the island tour (Palma-Soller-Sa Calobra), Formentor and boat trips. Ones in the evenings have suffered more than those in the day, but Son Amar, for instance, continues to be popular. If there is one excursion that has performed positively in the past three years, though, it is the Palma sightseeing bus trip, which has been helped by the high numbers of cruise passengers.

All-inclusives: a familiar story. When the economics of holidays get tough, demand for them rises.

Leading UK tour operators reported today that, due to the sharp fall in the strength of the pound against the euro following the Brexit vote, there has been a marked increase in the number of consumers wanting all-inclusive holidays.

Despite claims by the Balearic government that the all-inclusive market has levelled out and that it is about to begin regulating the sector, businesses in resorts disagree. Some bar owners, in particular in Magalluf, are claiming that this is one of the worst summers for years, with everyone coming either on all-inclusive packages or taking up the offer on arrival.
