I messaged the ajuntament asking if this is true, here is the reply :-

S'està planejant moure la parada, però aixo no es farà fins que arribi l'hivern i s'avisarà amb antelació.

There has been a slight misunderstanding. When Tangofan referred to bus stops, I thought he was referring to the stops on the bus route, in other words would they be going along the paseo again.

To this I answered that I had been told that they would be following the same route as they do now.

If we are talking about the stops behind the church then I suppose they will stick to their original plans and move them nearer to the ring road.

Suppose it will be a case of seeing is believing.

As of immediate effect, holiday rental clients will have to have their documentation or ID supplied to the police as part of standard security requirements. The National Police announced today they want to collect the same data about private rental clients as they receive about hotel guests. In hotels, ID or passports are photocopied on checking in, and this information is then passed on to the security services so they can keep a close check on who is coming in and out of the Balearics.

Sparky, I get the feeling they are just being awkward and that once they've made their point and created waves they'll agree in time for it to start in November. Be interesting to see if the guy from The Council of Mallorca arrives to sign their share as per the article.

Majorca is currently in the grip of its worst drought for the past decade with water reserves at just 44 per cent at a time when the island is breaking all tourism records and demand for water is at an all time high.

In July alone, 2,442,948 holidaymakers visited the island, making Majorca the most visited island in Spain.

The ten municipalities in the centre of the island (the plain of Majorca) are now on drought alert, while the rest of the island is on a "prealert", although Palma and Calvia are moving very close to be on a drought footing.

Hi we used to live in Jersey in Channel Islands and we know the problems of drought, a couple of hints
1, drink wine instead of water
2, always bath with a friend/partner.;)
 
We arrive on the 28th of September so I can guarantee a week of rain.

Council of Majorca commits to Puerto Pollensa pedestrianisation funding.

The second phase of the Puerto Pollensa semi-pedestrianisation project, which has been blocked by opposition parties, looks closer to now being given the go-ahead. The principal concern had been with a guaranteed half a million euros funding from the Council of Majorca for what will remain of the road and its upgrading. The councillor for land and infrastructure, Mercedes Garrido, and the director for roads, Joan Cifre, met with the town hall (all parties) on Thursday and stated the Council's commitment to the funding and also to the ceding of the road to the town hall. It will no longer be considered necessary to include the road in the network of "carreteras" for which the Council is responsible.

Tots per Pollença, former mayor Tomeu Cifre's grouping, was taking credit on social media for having applied the pressure to get the 500,000 euros. One of the parties previously opposed to the second phase, it is now likely to agree to it. The proposal had been brought before the council session in July and was rejected, while Mayor Miquel Àngel March withdrew the same proposal from the August meeting as he knew there wouldn't be sufficient support.

The Alternativa per Pollença, opposed on the grounds that it has argued in favour of full pedestrianisation, was asking yesterday if Tots (and El Pi and the Partido Popular) will now all vote in favour. If they do, then there should be no more obstacles to work on the second phase starting in November.

Fire at Mar Senses Hotel

Has anyone any info on last nights fire at the Mar Senses. I found a report in Catalan but it is not my strong point. I am wondering if it was serious as my son and his family are due there in about 3 weeks.

I think it was in the bakery next door.

The forest fire in Minorca that was declared around two o'clock this morning (Tuesday) is under control, and the extent of the damage is now being put at a lower amount than earlier - almost 37 hectares (around 90 acres). Of the 600 or so people who were evacuated, some are now able to return to their properties. Regional government sources say that the cause was some children who had been letting off bangers. :eek:

27 municipalities in Majorca now on drought alert » Balearics » News » Majorca Daily Bulletin

The regional environment minister, Vicenç Vidal, said today that the situation with aquifers has worsened because of the lack of rain and the tourist season. Palma, added Vidal, has become one of a total of 27 municipalities which are now on drought alert.

The current available water resources across the Balearics as a whole are 41%, three per cent lower than was the case in July.

Vidal said that the situation does not imply that there will be cuts to supplies, but in order to avoid there being cuts, all administrations need to work together.
