Agreement from the regional government would be required, while the yacht club in Puerto Pollensa would also need to support the initiative. On Saturday, the foundation is to make a presentation about its International Mediterranean Seaplane Club at the yacht club.

But the club may well prove to be a stumbling-block, as the foundation would want to make use of marina facilities. As has been well publicised, not least by the recent row over "poor Majorcans" and the lack of moorings for members, the club doesn't have sufficient space as it is. Xavier Ramis notes that there is a problem with space. He also says that the foundation has yet to formally make a request for authorisation to the islands' ports directorate.

I can't see the yacht club agreeing to this unless they get something in return, like maybe extra moorings :rolleyes:.

The president of the Majorca Aeronautical Foundation, Miquel Buades, and the colonel of the Puerto Pollensa military base, Román Martínez, yesterday made presentations at the yacht club in which the possibility was raised for a school for hydroaviation (seaplanes) to be based in the bay of Pollensa.

Puerto Pollensa has now become the only place in Spain where civil seaplanes are authorised to land. Unlike other European countries, Spain prohibits civil seaplanes from using coastal waters.

According to Buades, there is great interest from abroad and from Spain for such a school. Requests have apparently been received from the UK, Norway and other countries. He also suggested that seaplanes are a more sustainable and less polluting form of transport than others.

A further possibility - that of a route for tourist flights from Puerto Pollensa to Formentera - was discussed. When this was reported last week, reaction seemed mostly negative, not least from the Council of Formentera. It hadn't been told anything about the idea, but even it had, the answer would have been no. ...............

The ruling administration at Pollensa town hall (Junts Avançam and Unió Mollera Pollencina) has expressed its concern at the possibility of civil seaplanes using the bay of Pollensa.

The response from the town hall comes after presentations at the yacht club in Puerto Pollensa at the weekend during which a proposal for creating a school of hydroaviation was made. There have also been suggestions that Puerto Pollensa could be the base for tourist flights to Formentera. Minorca, specifically Ciutadella, is now also been mentioned in this regard.

Continues extracting water from reservoirs due to rains.

The rains of recent days have allowed Emaya not have to stop the extraction of water from the reservoirs , just as planned. However, from the municipal point out that rainfall has been "very little in the area of the reservoirs', while in other parts of the island have been more abundant.

On Monday the joint reserve reservoirs Palma was of 27.25%, while a year ago was 43%. Providing water reservoirs is now 12% of the total, while in October 2015 was 40%.


Although Emaya has not had to stop extracting water from reservoirs, it has bought the same amount of desalinated water that had planned, as reserves of the sources and aquifers are very low. Specifically, Emaya purchase 48.8% of the water consumed in Ciutat while a year ago did not acquire anything.

The Balearic government is investing heavily in cycling tourism.

Almost three-quarters of a million euros (736,767 euros) are to be invested in improving the cycling tourist network in seven Majorcan municipalities.

The improvements and greater safety will be for the network that runs from Santa Eugenia up to Pollensa. In addition to resurfacing, signage is to also be upgraded. The improvement work will be for 27 kilometres for three existing routes that start in Sencelles, Inca and Puerto Pollensa.

Anyway, I love the last paragraph about signage and safety. I hope that's aimed at some of the Lycra clad idiots on their bikes and not for the poor old motorist who this lot don't seem to give a monkeys about!
 
I have just read in today's Bulletin there is a seminar at Puerto Pollensa Yacht Club on residency. It is on Thursday 17th November at 10.30 for 11.00 to book a seat ring 971719181.

Donkeys provide a valuable service in the maintenance of "torrent" river beds.

The herd of donkeys used to keep the dry riverbeds in the municipality of Andratx clean is being targeted and harassed. The team which care for the donkeys have reported that over the past week two large water containers, which the donkeys drink from, have been stolen along with a large amount of their food, including bails of hay.

The herd keeps dry riverbeds clean in various parts of Majorca and there are 298 donkeys in total.

The government has lost its case today in court, parliament must vote on evoking acticle 50, although they say they will appeal. so there's still hope, watch the pound rise on the news, so hold back buying the euro today!!

Rain has helped to increase water reserves in Majorca.


Recent rain has improved the situation with water reserves. Whereas reserves in Balearic aquifers were at 44% capacity in October, they rose to 49% last month. ... Majorca, Ibiza and Formentera are on pre-alert for drought.

The drought alert for two units of underground water supplies has for now been lifted. These units are Palma, ... and the north of Majorca (Alcudia, Buger, Campanet, Pollensa and Sa Pobla).

The increase to 49% capacity compares with 56% in November 2015. ...

Goats have been leaving the Boquer area and entering Puerto Pollensa

The Council of Majorca's hunting department has authorised the cull of some goats in the Boquer part of Puerto Pollensa. The department's director, Joan Manera, says that there are safety issues because of the number of goats which cross the bypass and enter the built-up areas. The goats have been doing this because the lack of rain has meant there is less for them to eat. They have therefore been going in search of other sources of food.
