This recommendation is for my friend Porto who kept making me pop into Morrisons not so long ago in the hunt for wine. I found some great examples in there, and this one has been recommended by Matthew Jukes in the "Weekend" supplement as his Wine of the Week.
2002 Durius Tinto, Arribes del Duero, Spain £3.49
This was reduced from £6.99 so definitely worth tracking down to see if it fits the bill. Matthew Jukes describes it thus:
"Durius is the Latin name for the mighty Duero/Douro River which flows from Spain into Portugal and on whose banks are situated the great vineyards that make Port. The Arribes del Duero region is a relatively new one and is found on the Spanish side of the border.
The wine is made from tempranillo, the noble grape that makes Rioja."
Described as having "blackcurrant fruit, dark chocolate and tobacco moments."
Ok, Porto, if you manage to pop in, let us know what you think. I might be heading off there today to see if I can grab a bottle and thereby breaking my week long abstinence!
Happy drinking!
