Problems with quarantine etc.

The key to this remains with the British Government and whether the quarantine will be lifted. As Balearic infection rates appear to have joined the mainland and are now announced to be increasing, I think it’s highly unlikely.

We had a wonderful two weeks in our apartment in July but I’m absolutely hating the 14 day quarantine. We are due to come out at the end of August and September, but if the quarantine remains in place we would only have 6 days “freedom” between trips. Sorry PP restaurants but if that’s the case we will move our September flights and come out in October.

We’re retired, so the quarantine can be managed....but it’s just so boring and unhealthy not being able to get out for a decent daily walk.

I did think Gov UK were being unfair to the Balearics, but if infection rates are rising, I’m not so sure.

Or is it due to increased testing? It’s a real nightmare, isn’t it!?

Sadly I agree I don't think the UK Government will exempt the Balearics,we were hoping that we succeed third time lucky in getting to PP at the end of August.

However, it is not just the quarantine that is putting off UK visitors, not talked about much but if we travel against FCO advice, that is 'No Non Essential Travel ' your Insurance is void. We are surprised that this not discussed more or do people travel without Insurance? Not something we would do as we had to use health services in the past as have our friends.

Lots of space on the beaches many restaurants and bars open and staff willing and eager to serve, The sun is shinning the sand is amazing the sea is warm the beer and the cocktails are cold .This place has never been more like paradise than it is now. All people socially distancing. and without doubt safer than much of the UK just now .
If we are not careful Covid will Kill the world Financially. and all will be lost. Bottom line be sensible obey rules and enjoy life why sit at home wallowing and wishing . When you could be enjoying a sundowner in paradise and helping it to be here for many more years to come, Support the local independent bars and restaurants and ensure they are here for all our futures. Quite right and frankly the quarantining is a joke anyway. I mean if we had been in a covid hot spot then it would be understandable. It certainly wouldn't stop me going out for a walk....just as before, you keep away from people.

We are not doom mongers, just the reverse. We are well aware how safe PP is and having travelled to PP since 1985 have no problems on the overall safety now. We want to be in PP and help keep the economy alive for the future.

Right now our flights with Jet2 are suspended (as are TUI) awaiting UK Government update and hoping that we can fly. This year we have booked 3 sets of return flights and hope that we can fly on the 3rd attempt at the end of August. We are early retired and I can assure everyone that we have looked at all ways of coming to PP as quarantine is doable for us. We have a travel Insurance that covers everything but not against FCO ‘Non Essential Travel’, should we fall ill, not just health but all risks or anything when on holiday we are not covered (no matter the cause). I have checked with our Insurance, even looked at trying to buy new Insurance that covers against FCO advice and this is not possible (we wish it was and would pay for the privilege just to get to PP).

As I write, just heard that Jet2 have continued suspension until 15 August, we really hope that we can fly towards end of the month.

I really truly hope you can get to PP, as it It did indeed feel like paradise more than ever and we feel extremely lucky to have made our second trip this year, with the third booked for New Year, I always try to keep my opinions private on these type of things, as its not appropriate, but Its just frustrating sometimes when blanket phrases are used.
I suspect due to rules on the forum I can't post the name of our insurers, (which is mainstream) or details of some of the specialists, however there are plenty of specialist companies out there that will arrange insurance for you. Speaking from experience, believe it or not Its more than possible to get insurance even if you want to travel to Syria, Afghanistan etc etc and other 'truly' risky destinations and they are screaming from the heavens to insure people for Spain. Apologies if I've upset anyone, as I like a good 'discussion' but often typed words are not the best way of doing these things, and perhaps this isnt the correct forum, but all I would say is : just google Travel insurance that covers travelling against FCO advice.

The problem for a lot of people is the quarantine Dunk. We managed a lovely week in July but arrived home 10 hours too late to avoid the sudden quarantine. I have absolutely hated every minute of being stuck inside without even a walk and feel so unhealthy and unwell that I will never put myself through it again. We have cancelled our late August flights and moved October flights to next February as I'm not risking getting caught out again! I have to say I felt completely safe both travelling and while I was in PP and the insurance problems would not bother me at all.

car77, we are in the same boat as you, just about to clear our 14 day quarantine, it’s been frustrating not being able to get out for a walk, but I’d do it again if I had the chance of another hols in PP. I have total sympathy with all who can’t or don’t want to take the journey and it’s consequences. It’s a decision we each have to make based on our own circumstances.

I'm only a part time (12%) resident so I'll make a comment while we wait for a fully qualified resident.

Basically its lovely. In general it feels a bit more like September for crowds vs august for temperature. Yes there are shops shut down but many are open and almost everyone is pleased to see you. As there aren't many folk about then distancing is fairly easy. Plenty of space to dine outside and as I've been a bit ill recently I'm not drinking so I think I never used a public toilet... (other than the airport).

Only times I felt uncomfortable were in the Hiper transfer bus from the airport to the car hire (my usual Alamo were closed, Hiper are good though) and while navigating the narrow isles of Eroski outside the old town. Other Eroski were better.

Airports both sides were quiet, plane was quite too. I did walk from the car park to the terminal this time (Luton mid stay, they only run the bus to long stay, the walk was pretty quick though... probably faster than waiting for the normal bus?!)

I'm not sure I'd be happy to stay in a hotel though.

Only you can decide what is best for you.

All i will say is don't act on press/media reports, check the official Spanish Department of health website or N332 on FB which is very accurate.

As long as you follow the rules you will be fine .

Thank you for your comments. I'm still undecided but will keep checking the the sites you have suggested Sparky and probably make my decision next week. At the moment it is very much 'head vs heart'.

Providing EasyJet don’t cancel our flight out to Palma (we’ve changed twice already) we are coming out at the end of the month. I don’t expect to feel any more at risk in PP than here in the U.K. and, to be honest, the Spanish rules are far more sensible and understandable than here. In the U.K. in pubs and restaurants you are served by people standing over you but not required to wear a mask.....genius! The insurance issue depends upon personal circumstance. As we own a property here and in PP there are already elements of cover we already have. Cancellation, missed departure etc would cost us less than the insurance premium and, until the year end, the E111 deals with medical emergencies.

So I’m happy.....and looking forward very much to coming out again, despite the wretched quarantine (which would be OK in my view if we could exercise for an hour a day, as in lockdown), but again our government has turned “whack a mole” into “whack an elephant”!

Mixed opinions about the news on MDB today. Balearic government preparing localised lockdowns.... bit on the flipside all the infections are either locals or Spanish domestic tourists. PP is still a relatively safe place to be if you're in your own residence.

Easyjet cancelled our return flight the day before we came out but I just booked the flight 2 hours earlier instead FOC.
