Property Legalization

We were in a similar situation a while back. We liked the look of a villa but were told by our solicitor that the extension had not had permission requested and that the total built size was now larger than the amount permitted for the plot size. As he pointed out, some buyers do still go ahead but we should consider whether we could afford to lose the money invested if it became an issue in the future.:eek: We couldn't!

So if you are looking to purchase, do your homework and ask your solicitor to check for planning permissions etc. especially for extensions, swimming pools etc. It can be very difficult when you've fallen in love with your dream property!

Which I suppose takes us back to the good advice about making sure you have good legal advice from an dependent solicitor, who will look after your interests!

Is anyone else surprised how many people have commented on nearly getting caught out on an illegal property or extension.

Makes you wonder just how many illegal properties are out there and why the rules don't appear to be enforced.
