Rape in Puerto Pollensa

I was over there very recently and was talking to some locals about this case. One of them seems to think that the men (if you can call them that) are in prison in Palma, but how true that is I really don't know.
Everyone seems to have the same story tho that she was drinking in Chivas until the early hours of the morning and that it happened there.

I've just come back from Puerto Pollensa and have been going there nearly every year since I was 4 (I am now 26)in fact I could have sworn it was the safest place on earth.

Last Thursday (8.12.05) at about 7:30pm my boyfriend and I were walking back to the hotel (Puerto Azul) because we needed some more money. I had hurt my foot and was more hobbling than walking and said to Lee you go on and I will follow but more slowly as my foot was killing me. So off he went.

As I was walking along the road parrallel with the pinewalk about to turn up the road where the two Spar Supermarkets are this spanish man came out of a doorway and started walking at the side of me which I was a bit windy about. As I turned the corner he pushed me into a big doorway and grabbed hold of my arm. Me being as gobby as I am told him in no uncertain terms to get off me and get away from me and swore at him. I couldn't believe it. Luckily he just went.

I can't believe that something so horrible happened to me in such a perfect place!

Luckily it didn't spoil my holiday because it would take more than that but I shudder to think what could have happened to someone younger and not as loud as me!

This is awful - did you report it? Thank goodness you were ok. Obviously shaken but ok!

We rent a villa on the leading from the beach up to the two Spa supermarkets, which makes me even more concerned. The owners of the villa make us lock the gate when we go in and out and this was a bit of a pain whilst we were there, but in hindsight - seemes very sensible.

It just shows that we have to watch our guard at all times and be as vigilant as we would be at home.

The reception staff in the hotel reportsed it via the internet and we warned all the reps as most of them were girls.

We were talking to the owner and another customer in the Cavern pub and they were shocked about what had happened but said that things were getting stranger and stranger in Puerto Pollensa - don't know what they mean't by that.

By the way the food at the Puerto Azul is awful - top hotel apart from the food.

We have just returned from Puerto Pollenca, our holiday resort now of many years. I posted an email last May with regard to a terrible act commited and we did ban certain areas for our family to go to although they are sensible you cannot watch your drink every moment of the time. Despite this we had a lovely holiday although at times I know that my daughter could not but help think back to the last time we visited.
Now from what you say it is not even safe to let them go to simply make a telephone call without you feel the need to be within 'seeing' distance of them.
I am so pleased that you were 'gobby' and fought back enough to scare this person off and indeed for reporting it.
I know people will argue that we have more crime in England and yes I agree but in honesty, what is happening to our resort. What happened to the people that horrifically attacked a young girl earlier this year? (which was what promted my first contact with this forum)
It takes courage to do what you have done and hope that this person is caught that is responsible and that suitable action is given for punishment if he is caught. I will continue to watch this space but I do feel that strong action does need to be placed as punishment before it gets out of hand and tourists who have been arriving for years will still continue to do so BUT, will they if we do not see improvements and evidence of strong punishments for these people who are guilty?

This was my first holiday to Puerto Pollensa with my boyfriend we have been to Majorca many many times but never to Puerto Pollensa which I couldn't wait to show him, we normally go to Magaluf. It seems strange but I have to say that I feel safer in Magaluf!

The worrying thing is that in July I was there with my mum and my sister. Are women safe to go there on their own? Or anywhere for that matter?

At the time I was OK until I started thinking about it: What if he had had a knife? At the time all that was going through my head was HOW DARE HE!!!!!!!!!! WHO DOES HE THINK HE IS????

Hi Sofa,
I do hope that you are more settled now home amongst your family.
I think as with any place that we visit that it is 'safety in numbers.'
I just feel that these people are getting away with these crimes and feel that it will, given time, put the tourists off. Perhaps it would be an idea for us, the public, to keep in touch with the site in the hopes that when these people have been brought to justice that we are able to see for ourselves that hope that someone will post the outcome of any punishments given.
Perhaps someone in Puerto Pollenca will pick up on this and post messages

Honestly I am fine and was more or less straight away.

To be honest I've had a tough year and this is the least of my worries.

I hope the people who do this sort of thing and think that they can get away with it get caught and punished.

If anyone in Puerto Pollensa reads this and hears anything please post and let us know.
