Restaurants I like a lot

Unless I’ve missed something, it seems the thread for voting on our favourite restaurants this year has vanished. Disappointing.

So – to encourage forum discussion - here’s my feedback & comments on my own top 5 this year.

1 Restaurant Stay – superb on many counts, remains well ahead of all others

2 Hotel Miramar’s outside terrace – solely for their excellent snack-type lunches

3 Iru – good food, service and location

4 Yacht Club – relaxed and enjoyable

5 Amazo – for being a bit different.

This summer was the first real opportunity to visit a number of restaurants, so did so with gusto! We know Stay well and went twice on two separate trips. This was still our fave.

We also checked out 31, which is talked about relentlessly on Facebook, thought the food was excellent, but lacked ambiance and views, which are part of the pleasure for us. Loved Centric, really top food, had good meals at Capri, Suirrell, Swing, plus a few others.

Some of my fave meals were a simple sardinas, salad and chips at La Roca beach bar. Sitting there as the sun sets, on the beach, with a cold beer and friendly staff, was as good an experience as you can get!

Thanks KWUK2, i too have missed the usual restaurant voting. Just managed a short visit this September with my daughter and we really enjoyed a paella in Iru, one of our long time favourites, a great meal in Bellaverde, as my daughter is vegan but i always enjoy the food as a non vegetarian/vegan, had a brilliant lunch of tapas in La Cabana, a really good pizza in Eolo, but we didn't enjoy Amazo at all unfortunately, despite good reviews, really unpleasant meal which had fish bones , and a dessert that tasted of the butane blow torch, so wouldn't return here. Missed out on Stay this time sadly, maybe next year.

I only ever eat at Belleverde when I'm in the port. Very chilled, secluded. Food is always a delight. Staff are always friendly and chatty but in a genuine fashion, no OTT in your face malarky.

Up in town I've been to Onze a couple of times but only for very special occasions. It's worth it but the rest of the time I go cheap and cheerful

La Sasteria is my local italian, Casa Asiatica is my local Asian both reasonably cheap and safe.

C'an Moixet, La Merceria and U Placa - interchangeable, simple. Moixet for character, U Placa for paella, Merceria for the manageress, she's a sweetie - only kidding the burgers are good.

La Fonda - pricey, very traditional rustic local meals. Popular with the locals, my pallet isn't that way inclined.

La Posada d'Ariant - I like these guys. There's a good selection, the daily set menu is great value and again, attentive service but not in your face.

I've gone off Club Pollensa a bit recently. When it's busy the staff get a bit short tempered. Also I had the mixed paella and it was full of shrapnel, I left most of it on the plate. I still like to stop for a coffee or beer and do some crowd watching.

I haven't gone to the other restaurants on the square because I live at the top left corner and I've usually found what I want within a few steps...

we really like the old favourites in no particular order Can Frere, Hibiscus, Los Faroles, Brisa Marina and El Posito. all good food served by good staff and since we have been using them for over35 years it's nice to sit down and without asking bring us our drinks, beer at lunch and gin and tonic as a pre - dinner drink. Always attentive but not over bearing.

We still love Stay also
2nd favourite is The Yacht Club peace and quiet good food and wine

Never taken to La LLonga I think since our wine amusee bread and wine arrived after our starter !

NO 31 Like the food but agree no real atmosphere and not keen on courtyards so Moll de Bellagio comes under that umbrella as well

Can Fera just good food service friendly excellent value

Brisa Marina Los Faroles both always reliable El Posito love the Suckling Pig and the atmosphere

We used to go to Centric and Osteria but always feel a bit overcrowded with people in the square

Like Swing good menu Oh so many Have to visit SailnSurf for their Lasagne
Have tried El Castinet a few times and fine But find the other Restaurants there all on top of each other as well

So many to chose from Definately spoilt for choice

Would agree with all of those recommendations. Stay isn't perhaps the most exciting in terms of the actual food - certainly not when compared to Amazo - but the overall experience is always fantastic. We love the Miramar terrace too - their tapas aren't great, but they do a really good omelette or a toastie - which is sometimes all you want - love their comfortable chairs too!

Where is La Sasteria - that sounds good and would be very close to us - we're behind the square on the right!

I know what you mean about Club Pollensa - we love their set lunch menu in the winter, when they're not so run off their feet, but the experience does depend on who is working that day. There's one guy who is particularly grumpy, rain or shine! The food maybe isn't as good as it was a couple of years ago - I think they got a new amazing chef but he had to leave due to ill health and since then it's been a bit more variable. They do decent pa amb oli though and their cooked breakfast is v good value.

La Sesteria is the place in the alley to the left of the church. It's between Mon Adventure and the Asian restaurant. I say "Italian" but only because it does a lot of pizza and pasta but its pretty cosmopolitan. Its just handy and safe, I even go in there for a beer or a desert if its quiet...

If you want a more full on Italian then, I realize I've forgotten to say, Trancadora is my fave if I can bothered to walk (I can be particularly lazy after a busy day hiking and biking!!).

I bought a little sideboard of someone called Kate just as they were moving out of a house on Carrer de l'Horta...

Not me - though funnily enough we are looking for a small sideboard! We're in Carrer del Jonquet - so Trencadora is our 'local', in fact we can smell the pizzas cooking from our back terrace!
