A buzzy place on the square with a range of Italian and Italianish food. We ordered pizza. Good base, with a crisp crust and just the right amount of charring. A thin smear of flavoursome tomato sauce. Just the right amount of toppings as well. Quantity not overdone and none that would seem weird to an Italian – like pineapple or chicken tikka. One with ham and mushroom. The other with anchovies, olives, capers and a big blob of mozzarella. We shared a green salad.
For dessert, tiramisu was an OK version but wouldn’t make my personal “Top Five”. Much better was an apple tart. Thin base of crisp puff pastry, topped with slices of a sour apple (like a Granny Smith. The only sweetness came from a light sprinkle of sugar which glazed the tart as it baked. It was served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Espresso was good and strong but wasn’t really hot enough.
