Yes that is what i have in front of me, i agree with most of it but take issue with a few points. For example " Totally neglected beach", i think that has now been resolved it doesn't look anything like the photo they have printed.
Then there is the "Insufficient policing", as i posted on another thread there are more patrols by both local police and Guardia in a bid to address the increase in thefts and break-ins.
While i agree totally that the recycling bins are not emptied nearly enough, the green, general rubbish bins are emptied every day as are the litter bins.
The pavements are swept every day but agree they could do with being power washed and as for dog mess, well, it gets worse in the summer because there are more dogs roaming the streets and i think that is because the owners are at work and the animals are shut out all day.

The recycling bins are the responsibility of the Cosell de Mallorca, not the local council, so that, at least, is not their fault. Also the problems with the beach were caused by the contracters not paying the taxes due to the council. Insufficient policing, no way ,I've never seen so many patrols and stop checks anywhere outside of pre cold war Russia

Just wanted to say to people who may be visiting PP for the first time and are reading this blog to get some idea of what they have booked. Please do not run and cancel your holiday.
You are going to spend your time in one of the most beautiful places in the world trust me I have spent time in many continents and chose to lay my hat in PP.
The issues raised are no worse than any other city or small town in Europe the difference is the people of PP are so proud of this wonderful place they want to ensure it maintains a higher than the highest standard. When you get there you will walk along the pine walk take in the views and wonder what all the fuss was about enjoy.
:) :) :) :)

Well said Fil - I totally agree with you. We sometimes take any thing negative personally and respond accordingly. That is because we care. I think we all just want to do our bit in ensuring that PP keeps up its standards and doesn't become complacent, again that is because we care. ( do I feel a song coming on here? lol).
Seriously everything Fil says is true. That is why so many return year after year and many make PP their first or second home.

Not sure about a song lol but WE CARE could be the MOTO
get out your paint and make some placards lol
:):):):)

very good point fil... it is so very easy to forget why most of us sought out this website in the first place.... to get insight to the resort and local knowledge.
The middle way is hard to find sometimes...whilst voicing our love & corcerns for PP is understood by regular members, it could be a wee bit alarming to a new visitor.... so newbies... dig a little deeper... read through threads, and get a feel for where all this is coming from :)
All things change so we can just keep our fingers crossed for PP and as has previously been said, the natural beauty of PP can't be fiddled with !

fil, this is exactly the point i have tried to make many times ;)

Just wanted to touch on the the two first lines of the 'Manifesto' i.e.

Many apartments and houses have been constructed instead of hotels or residential areas of high social status.
No road access to the front of the beach, tourists can not access the beach.

This smaks to me of pressure of some sort from the 'Hotel Lobby'

Comments please

Fil, you are so right and having just seen a bit on GMTV re Britains beaches I think we have less to worry about.

Well said, Fil! Have to say we as a family are quite fussy about things like dirt, pollution and noise and we would not want to be anywhere apart from PP. Perhaps it isn't looking at its best this year because of boarded up premises but take a walk down any European high street - it's the same wherever you go, however affluent the community. Just go take a look at photographs of the 'old' Puerto Pollensa in Brisa Marina and El Posito - despite the obvious changes over the years I think the 'new' PP still retains much of that original charm and beauty. Apart from one exception all the buildings are low-rise and pretty attractive and how many tourist resorts can make that claim?

Another post to agree with fil! Its so true that we suddenly get on our high horses to moan about things - always more interesting than to just keep saying how lovely everything is I suppopse! But we all keep on going back there, I can't remember the last post which said Never again! This is the place we long for when stress gets on top of us, other places are just holiday places, PP, and Majorca in general, is an important bolt hole, and THATS why we care to make a point when we see it slipping sometimes under the "perfection" bar. We wont stop doing it though, because that would just mean we didn't care, but as you all say, don't let it put anyone off.:)

The protest is gathering momentum and there are protest forms which can be signed at businesses along the front. Apparently 4 TV companies are covering it and the mayor has already been in contact with a long standing operation on the front to voice his concern. Hopefully this protest will result in some action.

Yes them and the new Minister for Tourism, Joan Barcelo(come to think of it isn't the Barcelo group the ones who own high class hotels such as the Formentor??) One of the big attractions of PP is that it doesn't have the high volume of hotesl like PAlcudia or Can picafort

Yes lollipop there was a petition form in El Posito yesterday. I was told that Tolo of "Tolos" was one of the main voices in this protest, along with a number of small business owners.
I don't know about the "hotel lobby" GG, maybe they have been shamed into action by the little guys.
I do know that for all it's faults i am still 100% certain that life is better here than where i used to live.
Still living the dream !! :D:D

Agree with all you say Sparky mate, all this talk of run down areas, graffiti, dogs mess and over flowing bins reminds me of where I live, keep living the dream mate, you are an inspiration to us wannabes back here :)

Very true! But people go to a lot of expense to escape from that, and at the moment PP is failing to provide this, we're not asking the impossible. Get the dog mess , graffiti, petty vandalism sorted. Simple irritating things which, to me are easily remedied. I'm counting the hours till i get back, love the place, but am not willing to accept standards on holiday i would not accept in my own street.

Thanks SWS i intend to.;)
Don't get me wrong, some of the criticism is justified but i really get miffed when people say the rubbish bins aren't emptied regularly when i know it is done every, day, how often are your bins emptied in the UK?.....maybe once a week or is it every two weeks now?. It is also a fact that the Spanish are way ahead of the Brits for recycling, as i have already said these bins need to be emptied more often but maybe that just goes to prove the point, although it does not an excuse overflowing bins.

I can confirm what Sparky says, the bin men walking me up ever day:)

Just a little thing to mention, I know that quite a few shops are closed on Wednesday and even some restaurants! So if anyone has made plans for a restaurant or similar, then just double check it's not closed!
Just don't want anyone to be dissapointed when they arrive for their meal!

Kind Regards

Sea Captain
