Calm down my dears !!!!

Really don't know why people are getting so upset. Most of you wouldn't notice any difference to this lovely place . To read some of these posts you would think we are living in some hell hole . Not true at all . The problem is that primarily we are in a recession and quite honestly things are going to be tougher for all. The council haven't helped cos they have concentrated more money in Pollenca than the Port and a lot of the smaller businesses have turned on them cos the times are getting tougher .

Haven't checked the beaches this week but despite the hamacas having been out for nearly a fortnight don't know if any money is being collected still ?? As a resident , I'm entitled to demand a payment from a tourist for these but not sure if the contract has been finally let or not so am keeping me begging bowl in me pocket at present.

The dog mess is no worse , nor is the graffiti . Have actually seen a council guy walking the streets with a disinfectant spray on his back doing his best to clean the pavements . The bins and recycling are still being collected daily , which puts the Uk to shame , and we are not piling our dead up in the street .

Let's get this all in perspective. The tourist industry is down a lot , the official statistics prove it but it's still a great place and we'll address the issues with the council.

So , don't let it put you off, honestly you won't notice too much of a difference !!

Sparky and BL I agree with all you say and yes we are still living the dream, no where I would rather be. The hairdresser today said they need the support of the British and they have got the mayor worried. We shall see in time if there efforts have been productive. Agree about places closing as she said she was closing to join the march. There are posters around showing the route, from the garage and including the seafront, back roads and on up to the council offices. BL sorry but they are collecting money for the beds!!.

I took a photo today of one of the protest posters!
So you can all see it :)

They really have taken it seriously haven't they? Thanks for posting the poster (!) sea captain - good for translation practice too!

We are not far from the gasolinaria and should be up and dressed by 11:00 so we just might get there and do a bit of protesting.

Might just stop off at Joker though, for cafe cortado.

Nice to see some much-needed common sense here by those of you "in the know". More power to your elbow re. the protest but be careful what you wish for. I think the key word here is balance. Remember, a place that is "too" clean, sanitised and heavily-policed will be more off-putting to some of us than a place that is slightly grubby or a bit rough around the edges. After all, we have booked to go to Mallorca and not Tunbridge Wells.

Personally, I don't think I will be spending my holiday counting dog turds or discarded cigarette butts, or keeping an eye out for every exposed nipple.

Quite right Paul, but the next time your out for a stroll and your flip-flops descend on something unpleasant you may wish you had counted them:eek:

I had many a stroll in me flip-flops walking the backstreets between Duva and the port, Smiddy. You are right you do have to keep your eyes on the ground and it's particularly dodgy at night. Maybe they could give 'em something in their food that makes it glow in the dark! It's a slight inconvenience but certainly nothing that spoiled our stay. Point I was trying to make is when you are abroad you have to accept different values and cultures. That's part of why we travel after all, and makes the whole experience more interesting.

Agree with you Paul, one of the reasons I go to spain is that it isn't England, its different over there, its very diffucult to say why, but the Spanish have a good word, rustico, its not Tunbridge Wells, thats why I like it.

I will take you word for it Bella as I have never been there, I think Paul meant it as a kind of metaphor

I think most people agree PP is a wonderful place. We want newcomers to experiance the joy we had when we first visited. If we see, what we perceive as standards slipping we will voice our concern, that's all! We're not really grumpy old men and women.;)

Is this what the loudspeaker cars touring the port have been on about for the last few days?

SMG,

Yeah, and MoMike get up an hour earlier cos we kick off from the gas station at 10 a.m.

From the DB

Hotel group backs out of Port demo
PORT DE POLLENSA
THE Port of Pollensa Hoteliers Assocation has withdrawn its support from a protest march planned by citizens and business groups in the area to demand improvements to facilities and tourist attractions.

Although the association had given its verbal approval to complaints being made by local people over the fact that the Port was beginning to take on a “rundown” air and that terrace taxes for bars and cafés were some of the highest in the north of the island, it said in a statement yesterday that each of the protesting groups should “act as they see fit.”

However, the hoteliers association said that its eyes were not closed to the fact that the Port is currently suffering from lack of “inspiration”in terms of offering quality tourist attractions. “We have been voicing our concerns for months now to both the regional Tourism ministry and Pollensa town council,”the group said. The hoteliers association has put measures in place to hold meetings on a permanent basis with local residents and businesses.

BonysLads been revolting again !!!! ( So what's new Guys ?? ).

Seriously though ...

The March this morning was a real success , it was like a who's who of PP and mixed with so many Brits which the locals really appreciated . Wouldn't like to predict how many took part but the march was probably a good three hundred meters long. So many restaurant and bar owners plus many recognised faces from the local shops.

TV cameras and press out in force . I marched with Mr FANTASTIC for a few hundred yards with his banner ....... Sparky and I stood shoulder to shoulder ....

Did you get any shots , Mon Kapitan ???

Suspect they'll be quite a bit in tomorrow's Bulletin.

Let's see if the council take the wake up call and smell the coffee !!!
