We are already hearing reports of pickpocket activity at bus stops and markets :(.
Please be vigilant and don't become a victim.

Another reminder to keep your guard up at all times, make life as difficult as possible for the thieves.

Yes, we managed to get through our 2 weeks this year without being robbed! Hands clasped round my handbag in front and constantly checking that it is zipped especially in the supermarkets, purse on a 'tether' inside. Anything to make it more difficult for the *******s!

Pickpockets.

There have been 4 reported cases of robberies in Lidle in the past two weeks.
Be alert !

Attempted Robbery on the beach !

We were very lucky this afternoon due to an observant beach chair employee

We went back on the beach after lunch and a bottle of Wine and lay back for a relaxing afternoon then Josep who collects the fees shouted and someone had taken my husband's small backpack off the hook on the umbrella pole he leaves it on and had gone to sit on a chair a few spaces away obviously to rifle through it !!

Josep knew it was my husband's as they chat daily as my husband is learning Spanish Josep managed to get a picture of the thieves 2 female one male Romanian he thought phoned the Police and they caught them on the Palma bus So a result !

Apparently they do their away days to rob frequently We were on a busy part of the beach near the Sea Bar we will now be more careful what we take to the beach as losing even a phone is a pain

So we are very grateful to our observant beach man My husband wants to write to his Manager Anyone know the address ( Sparky ) ?

Hi, If you were to address the letter to the Associacio de Veins Port De Pollenca Calle Mestral 15. This road is just off of the market square and where the beach guys are managed from.

Thank you very much for that Lollipop

He was very observant and a few of the other beach guys have checked with us today to see we were ok They are always very pleasant We did see people leaving all sorts of things on their sunbeds today when they went to the Beach bar

We have learnt our lesson !

New season same old issues.

With Easter and the start of the season almost upon us i would like to remind everyone that the pickpockets are back in action again , please guys be vigilant at all times and don't become a victim.

I second what Sparky has said.

I have just received an email from a man who is on holiday with his family at the moment. His sister-in-law was approached yesterday by a guy asking for change for parking (there is no paid parking near where they were).
Another man then crept up behind her, bumped in to her and apologised, but unzipped her handbag at the same time.

Luckily they didn't manage to get anything from them, but I said I would mention it on the forum so everyone is aware and knows to be extra vigilant.

It is so infuriating (putting it politely) that this is happening again

Brazen Handbag Thieves ...

My sister was sitting having a coffee outside (of all places as it is relatively secluded and not in a crowded area) C'an Cuarassa restaurant yesterday afternoon. Sitting on the small terrace as you enter, to left of ramp. She was with 3 friends.

A large (6'4") Eastern European guy started making a fuss to distract attention, while another person from the same part of the world grabbed my sisters handbag, quickly passing it to a 3rd member of what turned out to be a 4 person gang working together. They jumped into a car which was waiting with the 4th member behind the wheel, then sped off.

Needless to say this left my sister pretty shocked, particularly given it was happening in such a seemingly tranquil and classy location, far from the throngs of the port. She lost 2 purses, new iphone, keys, etc etc. and is spending her last 2 days trying to deal with the hassle/fallout.

So please be vigilant as it shows this can happen anywhere, not just in crowded areas. Please avoid carrying handbags and valuables where possible.

So sad to hear, we hope your sister is ok. One can only hope that the descriptions for such an obvious group help the Guardia make an early arrest. A lesson to all to take care even in tranquil PP.....

Gosh your poor sister. I hope she gets everything sorted but it leaves a sour taste doesn’t it. Not nice at all

We were staying on the Pinewalk last week. On a couple of occasions whilst sat outside the apartment we heard people shout out a loud warning to others when they happened to see someone trying to grab/steal something from their handbag. First time in 20+ years this has happened along the area we stay. Also last Friday as we were walking along the Pinewalk we were approached on 3 separate occasions by one woman and two men asking us to sign something about a disability charity. They also wanted €20 as a donation. Looked very dodgy to us. Just keep vigilant and don’t sign/give any money.

Scam by ?Charity Worker

Today - husband in garden in Gommar area. Young man came to our gate and thrust a pen and clipboard at him. This had logo for disabled on it with names, addresses and amounts of money. My husband said no to signing and the man walked out of the community. Was this a scam trying to get names and addresses or was it OK?

It is a scam, the names and addresses and money amounts are previous victims of the scam that fell for it.

There is a facebook post about this for those that use facebook.

Yes they pretend to be deaf and dumb, it's been going on for decades. I remember Paco in the Golden Lion kicking them off his terrace one evening, he told me that he followed them one night and found them around the corner with others, happily chatting and sharing out their spoils .

I know this has gone on for a long time - but at restaurants and public places but this was at our apartment!

Also - talking to my elderly neighbour yesterday. One of these people knocked on his door and barged his way in pushing the clipboard towards him. He just wanted to get rid of him out of his apartment so gave him €10. This may be a known scam when you are out an about in the port but this is not acceptable in you own home and the neighbour is worried he will come back. Yes he could ring the police but this person would of run off. Just to say as well not everyone is on Facebook and prefer to talk face to face or by phone.

Carol, you are quite correct in saying that an older person would feel very intimidated by this sort of action. Perhaps it could initiate a community action to install some kind of alarm system for vulnerable residents?

My wife and I were approached by one of these cretins. He was enlightened in the Scots vernacular where to stick his clipboard and pen. I know that is easy for some people to say, but it should not be required.

The Mallorcan authorities have to take action as these scams have been going on for some 20 years that I know off and I have commented before. It is only a matter of time before a more serious outcome is experienced. PP is an affluent holiday area and will always attract the criminal element. The signs are it will worsen therefore inaction by the authorities will lead to the older generations going elsewhere. I am not quite at that stage but do consider these facts when deciding upon holiday destinations. It will be interesting to hear the thoughts of others on the forum.
