Hi Debz What I meant was when the work is finished the front road will be closed because it will be for Pedestrians. So Traffic will still have to find a way round . The traffic going through Pinnaret is not temporary, And come the Summer will only get worse. As indeed it will for the Port in general. Even the Council are not 100% sure how they are going to deal with this and are looking at different options still now. and the work has started. I am the most Glass is half full person you will ever come across, specially when it comes to PP. But on this one as I posted along time ago Careful what you wish for folks.

No need for the traffic to find away around, it is clearly signposted form the roundabout on the start of the bypass, if you want to get from Alcudia to the port you go on the new bypass, simples!! and the road will only be closed at certain time of the day too, so you will still be able to drive along the front one way at all other times I think.

Obviously not as clearly signposted as you think as the traffic clearly shows as it meanders all over the place, and just now there is hardly any body here. As for driving one way on the front at all times they have neither decided if that will be the case nor which way will be the one way if they do decide. Some of you may remember the fiasco a few years ago when they tried to close the front on certain days of the week as an experiment. that was the most winter fun I have ever had watching confused driver go forward and reversing etc etc. I am told that all the tickets that were issued to drivers using the road on the wrong days had to be refunded when the experiment ended as they were all challenged and as a result it was agreed the system was not organised properly so refunds were issued.
At least we will have a nice new pavement to walk on by the sea front but as for making the whole thing traffic free trust me its madness and will make life very difficult for the people who live and work here and have to deal with it 365 days of the year please spare a thought for them.
I know people have quoted when the Pine walk was changed but this is a lot different the Pine walk was and is at the end of the resort this is at the entrance and exit to the entire resort. this will alter the entire infrastructure of the Port and surrounding urban areas.

If I remember correctly from the original plans, the road will definitely be one way only, coming from Alcudia I believe all the way to the roundabout. The extra suggestion is that they may shut the road at the bridge in the evenings only, and I assume only in the season not the winter.

This was done in the winter of 2008/9, we arrived in early December to find the "new" system which was chaotic to say the least. There was a big plastic barrier just past Tamarells Bar stopping traffic from going further up into the Port, it was not just on certain days of the week but every day, not that it made any difference as even the police and guardia just used to drive around it most of the time, we played a guessing game every day as to which side road would be "one way", yes, it changed on a daily basis. The barriers along the front would mysteriously move during the night , one morning the one near Tamarells was to be found on the beach close to the water's edge .

We saw many tickets being issued over that winter but i was not aware that refunds were given when the farce ended.

All in all it was a very entertaining time for us as we looked on from El Ancla, especially as there weren't many people to watch .

Spot on Sws As with anything new it will take time for people to get their heads around the change. It will depend on where your apartment or villa is located as to where you turn off, but for most it will probably be at the start of the bypass. If not drive a bit further and you have at least three options. The Poly Park turning. The road the Guardia Civil is on ( which is by far the easiest route to take through Pinaret as there are no turns, it's just straight up to the by pass) Or up Avenida de Paris, which appears to be the one that's confusing people at the moment with its twisty turns and tree in the middle of the road!

I personally think the stretch from Avenida de Paris will be so much nicer without so much traffic, particularly if they stop it completely after 8pm ( I think that was mentioned?) I also think delivery drivers along that stretch will benefit from not having cars parked by the shops and restaurants. Often during the day cars and lorrys are double parked, and when you have to walk in the road to pass people because of the ridiculously narrow pavement it can be very dangerous

Hi ,

I see from the photos that the pavement has been dug up starting at the roundabout , just how far has the digging of road & pavement gone towards the bridge / tolos.

Also, does anyone know the extent that this winters work will extend to.?

The first stage of the semi pedestrianisation is supposed to be from the roundabout down to Pub Imperial but it looks like they have already ripped up the beach side pavement further on towards La Gola.

yep, that's what I thought.

Does this mean that it does not comply with the plan, stage 1, or that they have decided to proceed further without any amendment to the approved plan. I wonder !

I don't know but i have to say that some areas of the pavement were in bad shape so maybe they have decided to replace them now, it doesn't necessarily mean that the plan for traffic movement has changed.

Thanks for the photographs - helps to see what is going on.

Just one thing, unless photographs were taken at 6 a.m. in the morning, the town looks to be completely deserted - is this normally what it is like in December?

We came up to the Port today from our overwintering location in Cala D'or anticipating the pedestrianisation work. Lovely day once the mist had disappeared and wonderful to walk down an absolutely deserted Pine Walk. Followed the signage for Alcudia on entering the Main Street and managed to cross over the coast road to park outside Stay - good lunch and warm sitting outside. However noticed that many vehicles decided to enter Carrer d'Elcano to get back into the town in complete disregard to the No Entry signs rather than drive further down the coast road before using a legitimate route. Doesn't bode well.

There is hardly anything open along the front, add to that the noise and dust, which means nobody will be around there unless they have to.
The Port is quiet but that's normal, any people that are about are in the back streets .

Thanks for that Sparky - well that's normal. Why would anyone walk around a deserted seafront? When you say the back streets. does that mean places like the church square. I still vividly remember Sunday 13th September this year, when it was absolutely "rammed" full of people enjoying all the eateries and bars - the most I have ever seen in 25 years of visiting PP - unbelievable!!!!
