Semi-Pedestrianisation of the front line in PP.

Below is a rough translation of an ajuntament post on FB, it looks like temporary asphalt ramps are going to be laid to make it easier for wheelchair/pushchair users. I was told that eventually the road and pavements will be level so dropped kerbs will not be needed

The works of pedestrianization of the first line of the Port of Polença have as one of its main objectives the removal of architectural barriers. There have been no curbs at pedestrian crossings recesses as in the second phase will be placed at the cobbled sidewalks, leaving no step. This summer, provisionally, be placed flyovers to save the unevenness of asphalt.

That is the very definition of a silver lining, bless you! Front line looks like a bomb's hit it but, hey, the webcam is clean!

(I'm just teasing by the way. I love the webcam - it's a very big part of the 50 weeks of daydreaming about PP I do each year. Just wish it had something a bit more picturesque to show us...)

The paths are up as far as Siurell now , this company said they would complete it all by the set day in May, looks like they are on the way to doing that. At least then phase two can commence and sort out the road, cycle track and parking.

Sorry to repeat myself but the " completion date " somewhere around the middle of may is hugely disrespectful to tourists & local business owners.

How many tens of thousands of visitors will have been through pp by mid may .

I agree but to give them their due, they are cracking along at a pretty good pace.

The kerb stones and pavements are being replaced not long after the old ones have been demolished and I would imagine that the ones before Pollensa Park will be finished well before Easter, so basically 95% of the holiday makers won't be affected in any major way.

The tarmacking may be being done whilst there are a few more visitors, but my experience with things like this is that it proves to be a source of entertainment for visitors and locals alike.

People like to see improvements taking place and actually enjoy watching the whole procedure, especially if it's free !

yep you are making lots of very good points and you are at the coal face, so to speak.
I wish I could see the work being completed.

Not out until after easter ,but out for nearly 1 month, so looking foreward to seeing a great result.

I must say that it looks like the pavement is finished outside Tolo's and he will be happy in the summer when he has even more tables outside .

He is probably complaining because the present layout doesn´t provide for any car parking opposite his restaurant.

The nearest available spaces are on the next road along, Avda Paris, which will be chocka with day visitors.

I suppose the next thing will be to make them ORA zone, which will compound his problem.

On the plus side the space opposite his restaurant is now nearly the size of a premier league football field, so he will have no problem accomodating his cycling customers.

Looks like the "protestors" are mostly staff, who probably had no option than to "protest".

Last Sunday I popped in for a coffee and he seemed to be pretty busy. One table alone must have spent quite a lot more than the € 200 he mentions.

I presume the tax man has already taken note of his, quote, "€ 3.000 per day turnover".

Technically there was no parking directly anyway was there, the parking was a bit further along, would need to check the plans again, but there is parking along the other side on the front although parallel now, not at 90 degrees as the original plans

In season I can't see the lack of parking right in front having much of an impact on his turnover.

Yes, you are right, but you know how it is. If he thinks the lack of parking and that people can only drive past one way will affect his business, then he is going to make a fuss.

He forgets that in the season and at peak hours it is virtually impossible to get a table in his place.

Yes, but he still may have parking outside on his side of the road with the new layout, it depends where they plan to start it, I will have a look lunchtime!

Looking at the plans the parking starts a bit further down from Tolo all the way up to Av Paris, so at least you will have a clear view of the sea now, well through the bikes anyway.
