As i have said before, i don't understand the plans but i do know that changes were agreed to the original plan however i am not sure if that included the road and pavements being on the same level. At the moment you could talk to 20 different people and get 20 different opinions as to what the finished project will look like. Again as i have said before i think we will all have to wait and see.

PS, this is the the translation of the FB post by the ajuntament :-

The works of pedestrianization of the first line of the Port of Polença have as one of its main objectives the removal of architectural barriers. There have been no curbs at pedestrian crossings recesses as in the second phase will be placed at the cobbled sidewalks, leaving no step. This summer, provisionally, be placed flyovers to save the unevenness of asphalt.

What I think that quote means is that, in the 2nd phase they will put in drop kerbs and the raise pattern tiles that mark all pedestrian crossings.

Apparently the pavement will be the same level as the road from the roundabout up to Avda Paris.

From Avda Paris to Llenaire there will be raised pedestrian crossings both on the main road as well as on roads leading on to it which will allow wheelchairs, mobility scooters and pushchairs to cross from side to side with ease.

The workmen are busy getting things cleaned up for Easter so that cars will be able to drive all the way down from Llenaire and pedestrians will be able to walk up and down without encountering barriers and fences.

Work be stop next Tuesday 22nd until after Easter.

very interesting to hear all the comments, But does anyone know how many car lanes will there be . If as has been stated that parking will be along the inland side of the paseo then there will be a massive lack of parking as there will be huge areas put over to coaches as at every hotel and in effect be no parking areas. Any thoughts ??

I honestly can´t envisage a big problem. There are only four hotels, not counting the Galeon, in between Avda Paris and Llenaire, and one of them, the Romantic, is very small.

A bus "stop" doesn´t take up much space. I would be more concerned about spaces for unloading goods at shops and supermarkets.

With 10 metres there will be ample space for a bicycle lane ( 1,5 mts ) a car lane ( 3,5 mts ) plus parking for buses and cars.

Just checked the plans again here https://www.dropbox.com/sh/hnd6kesjv8p8ov3/AADZN6rKDHfo7WTsNKHbGMlqa/PLANOLS-projecte and not in any of them does it show the pavement at the same height as the road, that would be quite obviously dangerous, and they have already put the kerbs in anyway!

If you check out the kerb stones in-between the roundabout and Avda Paris you will see that they all have square edges which will allow the tarmac to be flush with the pavement.

From there onwards, they have rounded edges which will be safer for pedestrians.

To understand the works if you are not fortunate to be in PP:

To start with you will need to look carefully at the plans (drawings) - particularly plans
‘Full 7 and Full 6’ on ‘Planol 4’ - along with the ‘Cross-Sections’ on ‘Planol 5’.
You will also need to use the toggle Zoom button (+ sign) at the bottom of the page to enlarge the drawings as required to see what is going on.
You can move the drawings around with the ‘grey slidebars’ at the bottom and at the right hand side of the drawing sheets.

This information can all be found from the ‘dropbox’ reference in the SWS post #500 (1300hrs today) above.

From the Juan XX111 roundabout to Avinguda Temple Fielding generally the main vehicle lane is shown as being 5m in width with a further 2m width for the cycle lane which is on the seaward side.
There is also a longish lay-by some 2.5m wide on the opposite side (shop side) for deliveries - and maybe bus pick-up drop-off - only (not for general parking).

There is no roadside parking indicated at all between the Juan XX111 roundabout (near the harbour / marina) until after ‘La Gola’ (the ‘canal’ & bridge as you go towards Alcudia). There is roadside parking indicated between La Gola and Avinguda Paris, then more, again on the landward side after Avinguda Paris as one heads in the Alcudia direction.

In this section of works - from Av. Temple Fielding heading towards Alcudia - the main vehicle lane is reduced, indicated as being only 3m wide (one lane width) but again with a 2m width cycle lane on the seaward side and 5m lengthways parking on the landward side.

No doubt our PP based friends will keep us further in touch as the works progress as usual, hopefully with the odd photo or two like we have above - post #492.
Hopefully we will soon get a little bit of suitable colour once the resin surface is put on the ‘presently grey’ concrete forming the path! (Looks a bit grim at the moment).

(See also ‘Planol 2 and Planol 3’ for the other phases of the works as they progress onwards in the Alcudia direction).

p.s. From the drawings it appears that just the ‘speed cushions’ come up to the kerb top level and not the general road level. May be different if things have been altered at all?

"There is also a longish lay-by some 2.5m wide on the opposite side (shop side) for deliveries - and maybe bus pick-up drop-off - only (not for general parking)".

This has been filled in and is now part of the pavement.

From what I have told, this is correct.

Hi Molt , thanks for details of road widths. However, I disagree that one side is enough parking for cars visiting the beach & coaches.Coaches will take up perhaps 6/8 car parking spaces at each hotel & in the peak months both sides of the road are jam packed together with the lateral roads joining the front.

I have a concern & wonder why they did not go for parking at 45 %

All those owners/visitors in the Llenaire end of town with its wide streets will soon be living in a car park then?!

Looking daily at the road video, I honestly cant see, with the best will in the world, how it is going to be neat and tidy for Easter visitors! :( There is a lot of unhappy chat going on about how to negotiate pushchairs etc from certain hotels down to the beach, and talk about trying to change hotels. As for Llenaire Nick, thanks for that thought!!! :p I must say, this visit will be looked forward to with a bit of trepidation in a couple of months, although by then, I assume that it will all be totally finished and spruced up - but you know how assuming ends! As for visitors there for Easter, fingers crossed! :o

If the bus unloading bays are situated at the beginning of a side road, they won't need more than 4 car spaces.

Wasn't the original plan to have cars parked at an angle like you say ?

The culprit here is the bicycle lane. They may decide to get rid of it during July and August to have more space.

Just an observation Belladonna! Anywhere between Llenaire and La Gola really will be a free-for-all parking wise.
Regarding the cycle lane, it's a very welcome addition in my opinion. Not a "culprit" for me. There are some right idiots on bikes who think the pavement is solely theirs.

I have spoken to one or two restauranteurs and, unlike you, they don't seem to understand the implications of lack of parking space.

I would imagine Tolo will be quite severely affected, especially on weekends, as you will no longer be able to park in front and I would imagine Avda Paris and other nearby roads will be chocka all day long.

Sir Bradley won't have a problem though.

Isn't it ? : )

I hope some devious mind in the town hall doesn't decide to make the area you mention, an ORA one.

Palma Nova and Magalluf in Calvia are ORA zones, obliging visitors to walk quite some distance to the car parks.

Mind you they generally aren't tourists so it only annoys the locals.

Pinaret end as well I suppose

We are staying in Pinaret next month so are quite worried now in view of the potential parking problems - its never been a problem before but I hope we don't end up having to park miles away from the apartment:eek::mad:

I wouldn't worry.

The problems will occur in July and August and mainly at weekends.

Hotel staff parking in between 8 and 3 are a bigger problem than visitors.
