So did I. I know someone said some test patches were done? To be honest it does really need doing in this phase at least to seal in the dust on the surface which will only be worse as the summer season progresses.

Puerto Pollensa pavements preventing disabled user accessibility » Balearics » News » Majorca Daily Bulletin

The first phase of the semi-pedestrianisation project for Puerto Pollensa's front line coast road has produced numerous complaints. Residents, businesses and tourists have all complained about noise, mess and reduced accessibility. The latter of these has stemmed from the rubble created by the work, but there is a further issue of accessibility: the very real problem being posed for wheelchair and mobility scooter users as well as parents with push chairs.

Yesterday morning, a group gathered to highlight this problem, one that is particularly acute in the main centre of the resort and which is making mobility and and accessing shops virtually impossible.

While the problems were being highlighted yesterday, a representative from the tourist information office took due note. The office knows all about the issue. Indeed, the kerbs right by it are such that they create obstacles, including those of the pedestrian crossing. A member of the local police force also took note. He spoke with the group, kicked a kerb and suggested that it needed lowering.

The sealing application is going to start this Thursday at 05,00 am.

They hope to do the whole paseo in one fell swoop.

Dunno but he seems to know everything.
MdR, come clean and reveal yourself!

They have already started applying the sealant from the roundabout and were working on the stretch in front of the car park when we walked by at midday. First impressions are that this is going to make little difference other than make it slightly darker.

I really wanted to arrive to find everything looking far better than the recent photos had appeared. Unfortunately it isn't! The workmanship is dreadful and the whole project has obviously been done on a very tight budget. The sea side of the road is the most odd mishmash of grey slabs interspersed with random pinky/ red strips. I know that tiles should be put in randomly as opposed to a uniform fashion but this has been done so randomly I think my 3 year old granddaughter could have done a better job:eek: Also the finish is appalling...cracks, holes lumpy cement. The pavement on the shop side thankfully doesn't have the pink stripes and it does look slightly better although the standard of work is still poor. I can't understand why they didn't concentrate on doing the bit from the roundabout to Ave Paris and finish it to a high standard, then carry onto Llenaire in the second phase.

As for the footprints in the cement, I honestly thought this was a joke. Sadly no, there are a lot... in various sizes! I'm confused as to whether they were done intentionally or not

With 5 days to go till the start of the season I don't know how they are ever going to finish the huge amount of work still to be done...I also can't imagine anyone looking at it admiringly and saying 'great job' :(

Sure sounds very disappointing :(

Puerto Pollensa mobility problems will soon be over » Balearics » News » Majorca Daily Bulletin
Following the report concerning the difficulties posed to the users of wheelchairs and mobility scooters in Puerto Pollensa because of the high kerbs created by the pedestrianisation work, the town hall''s councillor for urban planning, Tomeu Cifre Bennàsar, told the Bulletin today that solutions will be in place within two weeks: in effect, therefore, the final part of the first phase of the pedestrianisation scheme.

Seems to me that Welly, who had a letter published in the paper, and Debz1, are of the same opinion.

I hope someone replies and tells Welly to stop moaning and look on the bright side of life.

Molt

Another odd response Molt. I don't think Welly is moaning, she is making a point to the powers that be. Pollensa has been the 'Jewel of the North' since the 1950's. This isn't a right ; the authorities have to work to maintain this on behalf of all of us; residents, businesses, regular visitors and those who have yet to visit. Welly makes a valid point that failure to maintain standards will result in other administrations who do care more, like Alcudia, claiming this title and eventually the revenue that comes with it.

I have maintained all along that we should reserve judgement until the job is complete, but having arrived yesterday and seen current progress, and bearing in mind the end of April is close,I have to support Wellys comments. There is a real danger that the mistakes made so far will be reinforced by the sealant stage. There are clearly two elements to the current work. The shop side from the roundabout to Avenida de Paris is quite different from the beach side. The former has a clearly identified pattern using the coloured slabs but more importantly the cement has at least got some evidence of a crazing pattern which is I think to an acceptable standard. The beach side however has a bizarre arrangement using the coloured slabs, which I personally hate but accept others might find less offensive. Once again though the important issue is that the cemented area has no recognisable pattern whatsoever. It clearly has just been thrown down in indecent haste. Consequently it is pitted and marked, sometimes bizarrely with shoe and boot footprints. Due to the timing issue around the work the number of visitors is growing and walking all over this unsealed cement leaving further marks accordingly. One 10 feet by 5 feet slab has been fully sealed. The affect is to darken the cement but also to bring out every mark, dig and footprint. This will hopefully bring out the crazing affect on the shop side but on the beach side, if the glazing is done without some significant work to clean and repair the surface, the outcome will be disastrous and my guess is costly and difficult to subsequently make good. I believe the council need to address this now before it's too late.

If you want a brighter side Molt, the widening of the pavement near town and up by the hotels towards Llenaire is a positive improvement, as is the introduction of new trees , but if the quality of the rest of it is not addressed the benefit will be massively outweighed by the detrimental aspects.

I don't really understand why this project has been so rushed, and it has clearly been mismanaged to date. This is however all history , the focus should now be to ensure no more errors are made in the rush to be ready for summer 2016.

I think you have summed up the current situation very well Debz. Maybe the second phase of work will bring about improvements but at the moment the whole area looks very second rate.

Couldn't have put it better myself. I reported virtually the same as you word for word when I was out earlier this month. It's a botch job I'm afraid and someone in authority's backside needs severely kicking.

Can i just point out that the letter from Welly refers to his/her visit at Easter, much has changed since then.

I am still reserving my judgement until the project is finished ;).

Sparky as you knows in principal I agree with this stance, the trouble is if they don't intervene before it's completed i'm afraid it will be too late.
